I think people were against the bill as a "fear of the unknown" type of thing, but now that it has been explained, they are OK with it.

So, amom, you're "ok" with DADDY GOBMINT telling you that you have to purchase something? KEY WORDS "HAVE TO"..

You're "ok" with paying higher taxes? You're "ok" with having the government determine the type of health care you'll receive? You're "ok" with losing another chunk of "freedom"?

My taxes will actually be a bit lower for a couple years because of this bill... I'm pretty sure the government will only be determining a minimum level of insurance coverage and won't really have much to do on the "care" side... As far as losing a chunk of freedom? Meh Rolling Eyes

I.m not OK with the bill. I expect prices to start rising soon to cover the required health insurance and possibly a spike in newly unemployeed people. I also expect the elimination of health insurance for retirees or a jump in premiums making it to expensive on fixed incomes.
I expect more school strikes in PA over health insurance cost as increases in premuims along with pensions short falls will push school boards to to request teachers pay higher and higher amounts for healthcare insurance.

And yet there's no logical reason for any of that to happen.

How can your taxes be lower because of this bill???? They will be higher as the deficit will need to be addressed through higher taxes. I know my taxes at every level will go up as the US , PA, will sturggle with increased medicaid expenses and budget deficits.

Look for a rise in temp employees or contract employees as all levels of employer try to eliminate paying additional benifits.

Also look for an increase in FICA taxes soon.

Also, pap, look for small business opportunities to decline...

A SMALL BUSINESS MUST NAVIGATE THROUGH LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS WHEN IT COMES TO FEES, TAXES, CHARGES, MANDATES, SAFETY, HANDICAPPED, ETC.

The company I work for will get a tax credit based on the fact that we employ X people and pay Y share of the premium. I may also get a tax credit for having a household income under a certain amount... but I am not clear on whether or not that is true for my family since we already have insurance... also, the student loan reforms that were included in the health care bill will reduce my repayment amount on my existing student loans.

According to an interesting analysis i heard yesterday, the HCR reform that passed this past week is strikingly close to the HCR alternative offered by Congressional Republicans in response to the Clinton HCR effort during that Administration. Yet none of the Republicans were willing to cast a vote for it this time around, now preferring to demonize it as part of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid agenda.
