Purely speculation on my part, though |
As I said before. Pelosi does not want an up or down vote on the senate bill, it will fail. Shes hoping for a deemed pass vote when voting on the backroom deal worked out with who knows ( the reoncilliation ). |

The stimulus bill cut taxes for small businesses and the jobs bill that is expected to pass today or within a few days cuts small business taxes... so... you want to step that one back or what? _________________ The end is nigh! This is a common marketing cliche that I have never agreed with... reality is reality. Perception is perception. I know what the phrase is supposed to mean, but the fact is, you can perceive that it's a brownie, but if it's chit, it's chit. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. But there's a difference between tangible objects and abstract ideas. Abstract ideas have no factual basis; they are always up to interpretation. So its whatever someone says it is. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

And there are abstractions that represent tangibility... numbers and ratios are abstractions in so much as the way they are presented, but they are representative of something tangible.
Congress passed x pieces of legislation. Those bills exist and can be held and felt. Their quantity can be independently verified. Whether it's considered "a lot" or "significant" is up to interpretation... but x=x regardless. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! When gas plunged from $4.00+ a gallon to $1.89 last year, did I not recommend Obammer put a $1.00 a GALLON FED TAX on it and an additional 50 cents for states and freeze it there?
We already were so thrilled we were urinating ourselfs it didn't go to 5-6 bucks a gallon, so $3.39 was a bargain.
Now the price will exceed the highs of then very soon and we will get diddly-chit as usual while mooching from the Chinese to keep us afloat.
God, I wish I were either as optimistic as Cy or as dumb. |

That's not what I'm talking about. Numbers can be made tangible via application to animate objects. I'm talking about abstract thoughts that have no tangible signifier. For example, the statement, "Congress has not passed meaningful legislation." That statement is neither true nor false and can never be proven either way. It can only be interpreted by observers at which point the perception of truth or fiction is based solely on the consensus of the majority. So, if you ask 100 people if Congress has passed meaningful legislation, and 51 say yes, then Congress has passed meaningful legislation. Whether or not it is meaningful is entirely decided by the observer's determination of what "meaningful" means and nothing else. If Congress passes legislation and then everyone on earth dies, was that legislation meaningful? With no one to ask, you lose the ability to determine the answer; this is evidence that it was an abstract concept to begin with. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Interesting perspective today, Cy. Yesterday this exchange would've went like this:
