I just came out of showering a ton of coal dust off of me and out in to that bitter cold. Could not open the doors or trunk where the de-icer was. Had to chip the ice away from the door frame, and key lock very carefully. 20 Mins later got in, started the car and opened set defroster and fan to Max and sat in the bath house for 30 minutes. We all did.
Then drove 5mph and we pushed each other up over a few hill tops. |

Jan 78 was a biatch! I remember some roads were closed because as soon as they opened them they drifted back in. Some of the roads had so much snow pilled on the sides it was like driving thru a big white tunnel. _________________

I also remember the ice storms. I went out one morning to 1/4 inch on my car and driveway (gravel). I pulled on the door and instead of the door coming to me I slid into the door. It took me 1/2 hour with a hair dryer and a knife to open the door. |

I thought that was what the secretary meant, snowfall for the month, until a mom came into school today and asked the same question. The secretary started yelling I told you! I said it sounded like Stephen King's A Perfect Storm, creepy book, and we were all doomed. By the way the mom's and secretary's brain power combined couldn't run nose hair clippers! |

My car wasn't that bad, just a thin film of ice. At least my car doors were not frozen shut. That has happened several tims over the last few weeks. |

Excellent advice, Bus. And probably more correct for Cy's case than what I said...Ice & water shield is an excellent fourth layer of protection, but it's a recent invention, and anyway, all four layers are compromised by the very nails or staples that hold the shingles down.
And for those who read the article and disbelieve that water can seep uphill, I didn't believe it either, until I watched it happen...It's bizarre...something to do with surface tension _________________ where-ever you get it - there you have it. - Anon. |

free sections of ice Thursday, while John Zawacki resorts to a propane torch to melt 6 to 8 inches of ice frozen in the gutters above his shop, Zawacki's Swap Shop, at 159 North Main Street in Washington.
Do not do this and especially with a blow torch, this makes inside leaks happen and a good chance to burn your house down. |

heck yea, your right. Too bad about your sports cards, especially that Walter Peyton rookie card or Mrs. dick eternally referring to you in company as , "My husband, that "dumb ass" ice man"and good friend of John Zawaki. |

Amom, forgot to tell you, as you lost power a second time, me too.
Went to bed but tossed and turned, looked at LCD clock and it was 11:31, later it was 11: 49, and later it was "DARK". 8 degrees out side, and despair setting in.
Called power Co. on my old non-electric plug phone ( the kind that hooks up to phone line jack) and they knew about it and said it would be on at 4;30 AM, came on at 3:35 AM. |

Amom, maybe we can get a group rate, because I'm guessing there are a bunch of us who are ready for some sun and sand. Of course, Ana was prancing around Atlanta in shorts and T-shirt over the weekend. Booooo! _________________

There was an excellent letter to the editor today on this subject that I wish everyone could read. She told how her relations were lounging on a beach in Florida, while strangers were helping her dig out of the snow....
Her philosophy was beautiful and subtle _________________ where-ever you get it - there you have it. - Anon. |
