Well, it is an afternoon game. And half of the downtown workers aren't working downtown today. But, that is so sad. _________________ -amom

If the Pirates were more like the Cubs( 0 for 96/97 years) since a Series, they would do just fine with attendance, but, NO, had to spoil everything by getting in on a few.
In the early 50's, Bucco's were last place from game 1, but more often then not, led the majors in attendace and being the only team with a million fans totaled for the season. Ralph Kiner's salary=$100,000. |

They have asked fans the following question:
"Would you rather have a good team with a chance at a championship every year and fall just short or have a team win a championship and then be terrible for decades?"
Fans always go with the former. Doesn't matter that the Cubs don't have a series since before WW2. They come close, they make the playoffs, they make reasonably intelligent personnel moves. I'd be a Cubs fan before I'd be a Pirates fan any day of the week without hesitation. Its not even close. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! I always liked the Cubs, one of the teams we got here on early cable from WGN, had just about every game on,but 96 years is more like before WW1. and just 20 years before phony was born. |

No one realistically wants a team to be champs every year-but we DO want a team that wins more than it loses with players we recognize and support.
Given that, I am a Wild Things fan and will never again enjoy the Pirates. _________________

I was born a Pirate and raised with the Pirates, I don't care if they ever win a game. I will still be a Pirate, not like fickle pickles who were raised to think instant gratification was more importent then values. |

I was 100% in agreement until the that last sentence BD. First, I would love instant gratification. But the Pirates have lowered the bar so much that finishing above .500 is now gratifying.
Also, and most importantly, what are these values you speak of?
You mean like signing McClouth to an extension in March and trading him in May?
You mean having Zambelli fireworks and bobbleheads to convince people to spend a night at the park?
You mean using public funding to build PNC Park and prevent the team from leaving Pittsburgh, and then putting together a $30 million roster that can't compete?
You mean trading every starter (except Doumit) from the 2008 roster by July of 2009?
Bob Nutting is making lots of money at our (the fans) expense. He wouldn't know what values are if the Yankees offered a bucket of it for Andrew McCutcheon. I will always be a Pirate fan, because I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. But I won't financially support this team as long as Bob Nutting owns it. Errr... at least until they put a winning team on the field. Supporting your team through the tough times makes it all that much more better when your team does win.
