So, Fox News FINALLY aired an Obama speech...
They played the president's address to the Congressional Black Caucus in it's entirety...
Now, why do you figure they'd go and do that? I don't want to say the "R" word... so, can someone give me an explanation as to why Fox, after ignoring the last two (three?) big time presidential speeches, would choose to air this one other than to show a black president talking to roomful of black people to Fox's predominantly white audience?
When the president talks to all of us, Fox plays Dancing with the Stars... When the president talks to a roomful of black people, Fox runs the whole thing... Again, Trying not to use the R word.

I was listening to this speech this morning (uncut) on the radio. I was thinking how I remember Clinton and Bush doing similar speeches about how far race relations and integration have come. But there was definitely a comradery tone in Obama's voice while he was talking to other black people. When black people hold an event, and exclude other races, I always feel like they're hurting the cause of integration. Even when its just something like the BET Awards.
But thats hilarious about foxnews. Because if a young liberal mind like mine has these feelings, I can't imagine how an older, Bible belt, Fox viewer felt. |

What are you talking about? FOXNEWS has aired LIVE every prime time speech the President has given. And I have seen many daytime addresses aired live as well. Apparently some on this site either work nights or are allowed to watch TV while at work to monitor these things, but I have a job and can’t do that.
But FOXTV is an entirely different entity. They have to deal with ratings and advertisers dollars that are lost every time they cancel prime time shows for a Presidential address. I have also seen instances where FOXTV will put a crawler across the bottom of the screen during normal TV directing viewers to the President’s speech on FOXNEWS.
I have also wondered why all 4 networks are compelled to broadcast the speeches, regardless of who is in the White House. Why don’t they flip a coin or something, for the non emergency, pre-planed months in advance speeches. Surly some of the news junkies would rather watch a new episode of House, instead of the President (no matter who it is) giving another speech.

You are right, Fox News is a different entity than Fox... but same company.

| No, my point is that there is a huuuuuge double standard. If white guys got together and had the White Entertainment Awards, they would be vilified and called KKK members. Black people do it, and its accepted. Who cares if you're the best black supporting actress in a comedy. Don't you want to win the award against the entire field? |

I don't really care if they have their little group thing, I just don't really attribute any real value to it...
You won best actress at the BET awards? Good job, I got voted nicest polo shirt at work. Go win a real award.
But it always comes back to my being a white man in america... seriously, the gay asian vegan convention isn't making me feel disenfranchised

White men are not a minority. White men have never been at a disadvantage in our society. Therefore, white men do not need to have their own special group to celebrate their identity. We have been celebrating our identity for hundreds of years on the backs of minorities. No matter how much you want to preach true equality, you cannot erase what got us here. Black people deserve to be able to celebrate who and what they are separate from society as a whole because of their experiences.

As an added thing... I think the black groups are more visible because it's a rather big group... We DO have white events, but white people, for the most part, can trace their lineage back to a home country in Europe... they have dinners for Irish Americans where they honor Conan O'brien and Seamus McGrady and whatever for being super awesome redheads... but it doesn't really get a whole lot of play because, well, it's dumb...
If black people didn't have BET awards, but instead had a much smaller conference for successful Nigerians, followed by the Pittsburgh Delegation to the Burkina Faso Chamber of Commerce stars of business convention, we wouldn't notice... But they can't because their country of origin is, usually, some boat.

I am not a fan of Fox but lets be fair. Fox NETWORK carried DWTS. Fox NEWS covered the President's speechs
I also wonder what hell there would be to pay if we had a WHITE History month.

See my above comments. Everything not explicitly labeled black history IS white history. White people have been the ones writing history since forever.
