Perhaps Anglo men (or WASPS) haven't historically (or presently) been at a disadvantage in our country, given what whites who were Irish, Italian or Eastern European dealt with in some times & places.

Splitting hairs. Irish and Italian immigrants were certainly given a hard time, but they were not considered "white" when they got here. WASP = white anglo saxon protestant. As in the "original" Americans, and by original I mean the ones who killed of the Native Americans.

No blacks killed Indians reread your history. During the slave trade there was an island in the Caribbean that the entire population was wiped out for a port for incoming slaves, these slave masters were not white, they were black. You are correct when you speak of the events in our history being despicable towards blacks, I can't even imagine. But given the present climate in Africa, some of the blacks in this generation should be grateful that their ancestors were brought to this country and sacrificed everything for them. If I were of from a black descendant, I would be saying my great great grandparents, suffered terribly and were brave individuals who I am very proud of. I am here now because of them and for that I will be grateful and honor them by doing the best that I can to make them proud of me! |

That's an interesting way to look at it. So one island in the Carribean trumps Columbus, manifest destiny, the trail of tears, multiple broken treaties, and being forced to live on reservations in your own land? Is this the history you want me to reread?
Also, I don't think you're going to find many black people who will say, "being a slave sucked, but I'm glad it happened so I can be an American." Pretty much no silver lining justifies that dark cloud.

| Thank Amphy for clarifying I spent today helping the kids with sentence structure and my head is swimming. We actually had a 4th grader today be given the letters DDA and told to rearrange the letter to make a word meaning father. He wrote ADD> When reprompted he looked up and said ADD again. He is not one of the lowest either. |

| Reread your history unless you want to be a stubborn mule, plenty of atrocities happen black on black. Currently their is nothing you can do about changing our past. If you are black and whining about slavery now, what good does that do? Don't you think they would do more to honor their descendants by working hard and making something of themselves. Many have. Their forefathers certainly if given the same opportunities that they have now would have jumped at the chance. I don't get this crap at all. Did you ever hear the best revenge is living well? |

Since when is celebrating your heritage whining about slavery? When I celebrate Chanukah, am I whining about the holocaust now?
