So did anyone else watch men's halfpipe last night? I'll give you a basic breakdown. Everyone goes twice, and you keep the score from whichever of your two runs is better. The riders went in reverse ranking order, meaning the best went last...so Shaun White went last. Everyone else went and had good runs, the White went and beat everyone's air time by several feet while still pulling off awesome stunts. But for him it was pretty reserved. Anyway, he posted a top score there that stood through the second set of rounds. So he won gold without even having to do his second run.
But he did it anyway. And he blew his own score away. And pulled off a stunt at the end that no one had ever done before in competition.
Have you ever seen what happens when an athlete just completely dominates his sport in every way? That's what happened last night. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

We watched also. He is really good at what he does and it is fun to see him perform! _________________ -amom

After White's first run, I had to have someone explain to me that he was getting several feet higher than everyone else. I really didn't understand how his score was a 45.8 (or whatever) when I thought two other riders nailed more complicated tricks. But, for everyone who understands this sports, there seems to be a concensus. So you won't see me complaining. _________________

Yeah, the judges score heavily based on height and distance down the pipe. His air time just blew everyone else away, but he definitely held back the first time. He kept it simple just to see how much more he would have to open up the second time to stay in first. It turns out he didn't, but then he went off the second time anyway. His second run was seriously mind boggling. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I was wrong about White's last trick never being done in competition before. It was landed once before in competition...by him a few months ago. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Saw an interview on Evening News, nice house, 3(I think) of those $100, 000+ plus sports cars etc. I was so shocked I Forget what else. You would have thought he was Tiger Woods or LeBron James. |

He's the Tiger Woods/Lebron James of his sport. Its got to be deflating for his competitors. He secures gold on his safe run and then comes out and says, "no here's what happens when I actually try" and adds like 4 points to his previous already-gold-medal-winning score...just because he can. _________________ The end is nigh! White has been at this for a long time. Unlike most of the winter Olympic sports, snowboarding has a huge following. I noticed that another channel (spike tv or someone?) was showing the "Dew Tour" in which these guys qualified, simultaneously with Olympics. Theres definitely a ton of dough being passed around. Hell, you have to be somewhat of a rich kid just to get into most winter sports.
Oh, and I would place Shawn White ahead of Lebron. Bron has a gold medal in 2008 on the dream team, but he hasn't won an NBA championship yet. I'm more comfortable calling it the Tiger/Federer level. This level is more easily attainable in individual sports. _________________

I know that, I was referring to the money part. Who would have known these boarders would get that kind of loot?, I don't know if skiers get any money.
The only boarders i ever see are these kids on skate boards and they usually have splinters all over their butts or blacktop colored abrasions on the elbows, knees, and buttocks. |

Yes, because of the Dew Tour. For whatever reason, all the kids think snowboarding is "totally rad!" and skiing is "totally lamo". _________________
