Then it's off to my uncle's for a shower. He lives in an even more remote spot than us but still has electricity. Then back with the dogs for a while, and then, maybe, off to Breezy Heights Tavern for some wings, beer and football. Then back to huddling. Gotta love country living. |
Good luck, Brantski. I'm throwing an extra one back during the game for you tonight. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

My power (and heat) went out about 11PM on Friday night. Right as the sun was all the way down and the house was about 30 degrees, the power came back on around 6PM on Saturday. I was just about to shut the water off and drain the pipes.
If there is a good side to all of this, I'm probably in the best shape I've been in since my sophmore year of college. I haven't stopped shoveling since Friday morning, and now I'm digging out at work. Oh, and its also good that my wife didn't go into labor.... real good.
To all my Washpa peeps w/out power, cuddle up and try to stay warm. _________________

Well, it took me 2 hours to get into work on the bus. My garage door was frozen shut. The boss swore in an email last night we were open but changed her mind this morning...about 10 minutes after I had gotten on the bus and had no way of checking my email. So here I am...in my office...all alone... _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I think there are 7 of us here (out of 20)... The absolute hardest part of my commute was literally the last 3 feet at the top of my driveway... it keeps re-freezing right there and my wife's car refuses to get enough traction to get over it. _________________ The end is nigh! That sucks, Cy! See, when we had snow in Atlanta a few weeks ago, I told my husband that since we have the longest commute to the office, we weren't going in until someone was actually at the office. It's a good thing I didn't try to be the responsible one that day bc my boss decided to close at the last minute. We would've been at the office by the time he made up his mind. _________________ "If by a 'Liberal' they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties ... if that is what they mean by a 'Liberal,' then I’m proud to say I’m a 'Liberal.'" ~ Senator John F. At least the boss called it through Wednesday this week, so I will be working from home through then. It was an ass pain getting in today. I had to walk the last 24 blocks because the damn bus just never came. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Dude, that sucks!
My wife and I are going to dig out my truck tonight (I parked at the bottom of the driveway so she'd be able to get out in her car if need be) to go check on my grandmother who lives In-The-Middle-Of-Dawddamn-Nowhere Greene County... she hasn't had electric or phone since Friday and their roads haven't been plowed yet due to too many trees being all crashed down over the roads. She has a wood stove for heat, so it's not like she's frozen... and she also has a year's worth of food in her freezer... but no way to cook it (sans cooking french bread pizzas in said wood stove)...
If we get stuck somewhere out in the woods of Greene County, I may just say "Ef it, we live here now" _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Let's just say a couple more of those Sam Adams are going to be gone when I get home. I need to self-medicate after this fiasco.
BTW, Sam Adams noble pils is probably the best gulper of a beer I've ever had. The perfect complement to pizza and wings for just chugging. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

That noble pils is a tasty beer. Had a few the other night at the Union Grill. When I left the house today, we still had no power (or water). I'm hoping for a wonderful surprise when I get home today. _________________

Mom was out in Canonsburg from Friday night until late yesterday morning. They live in the Senior apts. No one check on those old people until yesterday morning, when Solobay came in. I guess he got his ass chewed out my a bunch of steamed seniors. The man probably feared for his live! They did have a generator in the rec room, so they did have light and heat but only there. A funny side note, I was on the phone with Mom Friday when the power went off and the phones went dead. She had been sitting on her Craftmatic bed talking to me and had it in the upright position. The poor dear couldn't get the bed back down and had to sleep on the couch. She said she was comfy enough though. |

That sucks. Those beds should have a battery feature with enough juice to reset a position when the power goes out. Storms like this make me wish I had some money aside for one of those battery backup systems for my computer as well, long enough to at least shut it down properly. But they're so damn expensive. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Friends ran out and bought a generator yesterday. I guess Lowes in Wash. had them probably because the store had been closed. By the time they left the store the generators were sold out. We did our grocery shopping yesterday and WalMart was a zoo. The funny thing was the only aisle that sells cigarettes had the longest line. That line went around to the left and almost to the entry. Luckily I got a carton on Friday pre-blizzard or I would have been there too. You'll walk a mile for a Camel! |
