You know, ex-soccer players make the best kickers. Smile

Half-a- foot guy had the record(63yds) for a long time and side-winders cut your accuracy proportionatly.

A kicker for Pittsburgh missed two easy ones yesterday

Half-a-foot guy doesn't count. Most people have a whole foot.

Tom. By the way, when he broke that record it was during the time that the goal posts were still at the front of the end zone. Since they have been moved back, a kicker has beaten his record unofficially (65 yards, but in a preseason game which doesn't get counted in record books) and tied it officially (that Broncos kicker in the 98 season; thinner air but he had another 12 yards of distance he had to put on it). The latter two were soccer style kickers.

Me too, But Dempsey sounds right.

Also Cy, at the time there were those who wanted the his record removed because of the foot issue. The square front of the shoe, they felt, gave him an advantage the others did not have.

Hell, to even it up, all they had to do was to cut half of their foot off.

Clod hoppers are almost square, are they allowed to use steel toe shoes? I don't see why not if the the receivers, passers can use those non-slip gloves( not coated with stick-um gloves).

If they keep promoting the legal violence of football as some have, how many years before it becomes legal for the linebackers etc. to carry baseball bats with 6" spikes and runners in "light weight armor suits"?

Beginning to see why the Romans loved the Colieseums so much. Can't be too long since a number of our elected officials are already well into "illict sexual affairs" and orgys are probably already in place.

Romans would be so proud of us, I think. We have all that, even Senators, and we send our poor off to fight wars in distant lands.

It seems to be going the other way in my opinion. Now when you sack the QB, you have to make sure you don't actually land on him or its a 15 yard roughing call. You have to sandlot tackle him.

True, but we need someone to keep the flow going, but you can pretty much cream the chit out of the rest as long as it is deemed "legal" and that is up to and including knocking their fillings out.

Remember when Warren Sapp ran about 10 yards to a Green Bay guy who was just standing there , not even looking at Sapp, after the play was over, and Sapp whacked the hell out of him? This was well away from where the the play was.

Certain players get away with certain things for sure, but its getting more and more sensitive. Another example is all face mask penalties being 15 yards now. And of course the change to pass interference rules not too many years ago; it used to just be a 15 yarder, now it puts the ball at the spot of the foul. A QB can go deep on a receiver and net theoretically 99 yards of penalty on one play.

I figured the "Jeff Reed is a class act" conversation should be reopened. I finally got around to reading the details... Laughing Laughing Laughing

Quote:
Mr. Reed put up his fists and got "into a fighters stance," according to a police affidavit.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Quote:
The confrontation was swift as one officer put Mr. Reed in an arm lock while a second officer forced him to the ground.

Mr. Reed continued to resist as the officers struggled to get his hands behind him to be put in cuffs, the affidavit said.

Its not as though those two key missed fgs are that far in the past. You'd think the guy would wait until he got back into some kind of rhythm before acting like he's hot shit again. I would expect this kind of behavior from the star tight end, linebacker, or even offensive tackle. But from the kicker? Come on Jeff.
