Those who complained about the City of Washington adding a 1/2 % income tax to non-residents should be happy they didn't make it a full 1%. Ason just got his first paycheck from his college and the City takes the 1% for all non-residents working for in-City businesses. Way to screw over the college kids, eh? Evil or Very Mad

My rant for today is a strange one, but its that much more important to me because it SHOULDN'T be strange, it should COMMON SENSE. Its also a health care thing but its very particular. I'm talking about mental health. Why is seeing a shrink such a stigma in our culture? It shouldn't be. You know why? Because something like 90% of the population would benefit from a once a month visit with a head doc. Seriously, you don't need to be crazy to see a shrink. We seem to care a lot about our physical health and we get checkups even when nothing's wrong. Why not mental checkups? Talk to a shrink once a month if your health insurance covers it and you haven't been feeling absolutely ecstatic. You know who thinks shrinks are for sissies and head cases? People like Timothy Mc****ingVeigh.

Sorry, but I've got to side with McVeigh on that one. Never thought I'd say that about anything. Wink I think the whole psychoanalysis, repressed memory, get in touch with your inner child, blame your parents, blame anybody else but yourself, AD/HD overdiagnosing, post-traumatic stressing, give half the population Zoloft society we've become borders on the ridiculous. I think people need to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, give themselves a kick in the azz, go out and face the day and quit being such a bunch of p ... well, you know.

Brant, homie, this response is exactly whats wrong with our culture's perception of psychiatry. There is no psychoanalysis/repressed memories/inner child/blaming of the folks/any type of diagnosis/PTSD (which is a real and very serious illness though)/medicating going on in 90% of legit psychiatric visits. Your view of psychiatry is the exact stereotype I'm talking about. Everything you listed...why is that the assumption of what goes on in mental health?

My perception of psychiatry is that people are becoming increasingly weak-minded, whiny and reliant on jibber-jabbering to some Freud wannabe or taking some drug or another because they don't feel "happy" all the time. One of my favorite comedians, Drew Hastings, said that pretty soon, we're going to have salt blocks of psychiatric drugs on every street corner, and people will go around licking them like the sheep they are. As Hastings says, "It's life, people."

That type of psychiatry is the exact opposite of the kind I'm saying everyone should have access to. And I'm not even saying everyone should go, just that it should be easy and affordable to.

I just can't see myself going to a therapist... Whether it's Brant's kind or your kind...

Shrink:"Hello, I'm Dr. Acula. How are things?"

Me:"Pretty good."

Shrink:"Anything you want to talk about?"

Me:"Not really... do you have a Roku box?"

Shrink:"No, I do not."

Me:"Then maybe I'm not the one who needs help..."

This kid, on the other hand... Yeah, definitely.
All kids aren't like this, are they? Because I'd have to send Chaucer away to Mexico if he did this chit. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/80671147/

Sad

He's so sweet and fun, now though!!! Smile

He is into "mauling" now... He'll grab both sides of my face and try to remove it... or my neck, or my hair, or my chest hair (ouch)... and he laughs maniacally while he does it...

I tell people it's like getting mauled by a koala... it hurts like hell, but it's so funny and cute!

Today's rant: poorly designed computer applications. Okay, so I have to upload a crap load of files to a new server at my job. Its not hard cause the CMS has a drag and drop feature, so I drag and drop. Well, actually, it is hard because the server has much stricter naming rules than most peoples' computers, so I have to spend HOURS renaming files to get them on the server. Now it just so happens that this CMS is also a workspace, meaning files are meant to be worked on in cyberspace so everyone has instant access. Of course, there are rules to keep things in order; all documents have to be approved by team leaders before they can be viewed, and documents have to be virtually "checked out" by someone who is going to edit them to keep multiple people from editing the same doc at the same time. Well, after investing a large chunk of my life into getting these files up, I find that this great system...

DOESN'T LET YOU APPROVE OR CHECK IN MORE THAN

ONE

DOCUMENT AT A TIME...

Seriously, microsoft? Seriously? The idea of somebody uploading more than one document and NOT needing to individually approve each one just never occcured to you? So I basically have to approve something like 400 documents one at a time? Yeah, **** you Bill Gates.
