Watched it last night. Pretty good, I would recommend it.

Cool! My hubby has been wanting to see it...Maybe we'll watch it tonight!

Everyone has their own tastes in movies, but my wife and I watched "Adventureland," and other than the nice Pittsburgh scenery, we thought it sucked, hard.

Yeah, I read some of that. Think you have to be under 30 to enjoy it. Sorry.

Cy, there is a ton of what I consider to be "trash movies " on all of the "PREMIUM' chanels on tv today. Those"coming of age, any thing from the British Isles including Australia, outer space, monsters of any kind, animals, any thing futuristic , or includes glob, slime, anything from Asia or India or f--ing animations and voice overs.

To enjoy this one must be under 12 or mentally under 15., or just plain mental.

No, Cy, I don't think that's it, because I love films like "Juno" and "500 Days of Summer," and tonight I'm watching the Michael Cera movie "Paper Hearts." I just thought "Adventureland" was painfully slow without much reward at the end.

See, I wouldn't put this movie in the same genre as any of those you listed. I don't consider Adventureland to be a comedy at all. I'd list it more alongside stuff like Almost Famous. But its also got a healthy dose of subtle homage to movies like Better of Dead, mostly because of the time period its set in. I think if you went in expecting Juno, you went in with the wrong idea in mind.

I didn't go in expecting "Juno" or any other movie. And I knew you would say the movie wasn't in the same genre as those. Do me a favor and give me a few movies that ARE in that genre and we'll see how it stacks up and what I thought of them. It's certainly not even remotely close to being as good a movie as "Almost Famous." It's not even in the same ballpark. The guy who directed "Adventureland" also directed "Superbad," which also is a much, much better film. Most critics liked "Adventureland." I didn't. My thoughts about the film are pretty well encapsulated by this review I found online:

There isn't nearly as much comedy as you would expect based on the previews. There's nothing wrong with that, except the created void isn't really filled with anything, and that ending is just bad.

Also, this movie was set in the '80s, when I was still young. It should have had an appeal to people of my age for the nostalgia factor, but it never made me care about anyone other than the lead character. The rest of the characters were just poorly filled-out caricatures.

I guess its a matter of perception. I didn't think the previews indicated comedy so much as coming of age. I also thought Almost Famous was highly overrated and pretty self-indulgent, but I didn't grow up in the 60's, so maybe it wasn't geared towards me. I tend to find a lot of Cameron Crowe's movies to be self-indulgent, though.

Other movies I would compare Adventureland to...Reality Bites, maybe. Chasing Amy. High Fidelity may be the closest I can think of.

I think "Juno" & "500 Days of Summer" are overrated. Don't get me wrong, I thought they were cute, entertaining movies. I did like them. But they definitely didn't live up to all the hype...After reading so many great reviews, I was disappointed!

Loved "Chasing Amy" and "High Fidelity." Just couldn't get on board with "Adventureland." But that's why talking about movies is so much fun. People that you have so much in common otherwise may have a totally different take on films.

True that. Chalk it up to different tastes.

So I just watched Adventureland & I enjoyed it! It wasn't awesome, but it was good! I've always loved "Chasing Amy" and "High Fidelity". I've seen both multiple times!
