Just saw report on the "Today" show that said the British researcher who allegedly found a link between the MMR vaccine and autism had been, at the time his study was released, taking money for TWO YEARS from a law firm that was planning a class-action suit against vaccine companies. He denies there's a conflict of interest. To date, there is no evidence - none whatsoever - that vaccines are to blame for even one case of autism. _________________

Can't state this enough, brant... I feel for parents with autistic kids, but we should not imperil the health of the entire world for something that has absolutely ZERO statistical or medical evidence behind it. ZERO...
It's not even a "nominal" propensity to cause autism... there is ZERO statistical linkage.
Hundreds of thousands of children in the sample size and NO EVIDENCE at all that vaccines cause autism. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

My wife, who has done a lot of research in this area, thinks the argument that vaccines cause autism is total BS. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I think there's probably a lot of overlap between the folks who believe vaccines cause autism and those who home-school their kids. Just sayin'. _________________

This is despicable! I agree with Brant about the overlap. _________________ "If by a 'Liberal' they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties ... if that is what they mean by a 'Liberal,' then I’m proud to say I’m a 'Liberal.'" ~ Senator John F. There is an overlap if for no other reason, public schools won't take kids unless they are vaccinated. I know a seemingly well-educated woman whose kid goes to a private school because she won't get him vaccinated. _________________ -amom

I take home-schooling on a case-by-case basis. I'd like to think that some of us on the forum could do a very good job of home-schooling our children, but I think many home-schooled kids are ill-served by having their parents providing instruction. _________________

Brant is absolutely right. I used to be dead against home schooling because it creates a lot of socially awkward people. But this contradicts the libertarian stances I take on other issues. Hey, the world needs strange people. To each his own. _________________

My wife turned out good anyway. I would totally let her mom home school our kids. She does a good job. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I thought you could claim a religious reason for not vaccinating... If I "believed" that vaccines caused autism, I would fake believe in sky wizards to get my kid into school without subjecting him to "harm"
But I don't, so I don't have to... _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

In this case, I guess she didn't want to flat out lie just to get her kid into public school, although I believe you are right about the "religious beliefs" argument.
And if I were financially able, I would have home-schooled my kids in a heartbeat. At least through middle school. _________________ -amom

Yeah man, I wasn't generalizing... just theorizing on what I'd have missed out on if it wasn't for school. _________________
