That's an old favorite of mine. You can tell he wanted to say "eff" but stopped himself...but then chit slipped out anyway.

Before it broke, was the camera shaking or was his hands shaking? If it was his hands, you could see this coming.

Looked like his hands. I don't think it was a camera, I think it was one of those old plastic or wax spools they used to do audio recordings on waaaaay back in the day. They worked more or less like a vinyl record except instead of writing/reading in a circle on a flat disc they wrote/read on the outside surface of a cylinder as it spins.

No Cy, I meant the guy holding the camcorder, was he shaking the camera or was the guy holding the wax spool hands shaking as he was holding it.

I had an upright RCA Victrola from 1900 , that you had to wind up and set the needle holder on the record to hear the song. A few one side only vinyl recordings and a few others from the day.

The arm with the needle was made from that white metal(can't think of what it is called) and my buddy had his two wild sons over who promptly snapped the arm in half when they got into it as we were talking upstairs.

Hey Bus, we also had a Victrola...One of my earliest memories is of Enrico Caruso singing "I Dream..." in english...
You know, the fact you had to place the disc carefully, work to wind the thing up, place the needle perfectly, then kneel beside the speaker, and strain to listen through the scratches for the sound of his incredible voice to stir something in your soul, and make you think that you can be better than you are, maybe even a great singer....

Now we have Adam Lambert on you tube

This is somewhat what it looked like except it had that "green felt" lining inside.

My grandmother had one very much like that. I wish I still had all those old 78 records.

Brant, with the "wind up " feature, these were more like "variable speed records". I can still hear the sound it makes when it needed to be cranked again Laughing

Also, the 78's were about 10" round?, most of the early ones were about 14-16" round? and about an eigth of an inch thick.

I don't know how to say this, but somehow, having to labor to create the sound, then struggle to hear through the imperfections, made it so much more meaningful....I remember, Five foot two, eyes of blue...Ain't Misbehavin'...a scary speech by aimee semple McPherson,
and the poem Gunga Din
