I don't even believe we should call it Christmas. Lets call it what it really is...an excuse to spend money we don't have on gifts for others, have parties, decorate, bake, eat, drink and be merry but not because Christ was born. Would Jesus want us to celebrate in such fashion? Would it glorify Him, would it remind us that He came from such a humble beginning... the long awaited Messiah born amongst the animals. Instead its just a retail extravaganza to peddle some cars, jewelry, toys and junk from China to litter our homes and yards. I say Merry Christmas to people but I feel like I'm lying. Now there is nothing wrong with being nice to people and getting together with family but we've all gone too far. My kid's are adults now so don't accuse me of ruining their lives by denying them Christmas. This year I am not putting up a tree and I am not buying gifts, nor do I want any. Call me a scrooge, but I just can't honestly celebrate the way the world does. I'll celebrate in a way that honors Him even though its not really His birthday. _________________ It's almost 2010! I don't think you can realize how happy it makes me to see you say that! Merry Christmas, PlainJane! (And I'm not saying that to be a dick) _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I agree, Jane! I love the holidays, but I definitely think that Christmas has been out of control for a while now. Too much pressure and too many expectations are ruining Christmas for a lot of people. Like you said, it's not even Jesus' real birthday! I do put up some decorations bc I like them and get a couple of simple gifts for a few people. But mostly, I look forward to actually spending time with friends & family. _________________ "If by a 'Liberal' they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties ... if that is what they mean by a 'Liberal,' then I’m proud to say I’m a 'Liberal.'" ~ Senator John F.
