Wrong kind of geek. We're debating the science of mythical creatures, not designing costumes to dress as them. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Considering my +9 Paladin's Armor couples with my +4 Aegis of Mythril and my +23 Illumina Sword carries an auto-Song of Suffering spell cast, you're going to need a lot more than 20 sides on your die. _________________ The end is nigh! For arguements sake, ok, they're the same effin thing. |
I thought Nightcrawler was a teleporter, not a shapeshifter? Mystique was a shapeshifter though.
I guess what I'm saying is that, in the most basic sense of the word, a person that can take on the physical form of another creature, whether a different looking person or some form of animal, is a shapeshifter in my book. I would classify a werewolf as a subset of that type of mythical creature in that it traditionally does not control its transformation and is at the mercy of the full moon. If you wanted to split hairs, you could classify it as a separate entity on the basis of it not having control over its transformation (making "control" an integral part of being a shapeshifter). I would buy that, and therefore agree with you that traditional werewovles are not necessarily shapeshifters.
But the werewolves in twilight were never traditional to begin with, and that was my point.
The werewolves in twilight control their change. To me, that's a shapeshifter. I don't see why calling them that in the third book is any kind of revelation; they were never really traditional werewolves to start, so why is that a gasp-worthy moment? |
Yes, Mystique. Thats who I was thinking of. Thank you. I wasn't aware that the Twilight werewolves didn't need a full moon. I'm really clueless about all things Twilight.
My thinking is that Mystique, who has shapeshifting powers caused by mutation, can shift atoms around to transform into other beings.
While Teen Wolf, has a genetic inheritance, whom under the full moon becomes an incredible basketball player and looks old enough to buy beer.
I don't know why that was a gasp-worth moment. Like I said, everyone who heard my mother inlaw was pizzed off. I laughed when I heard of this reaction, while you went off into a tizzy. You must really care about Twilight. _________________

No, I don't care about twilight, but I take my cryptozoology very seriously. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

We once sat in front of some totally obnoxious people at a Harry Potter movie. They must not have read the book since they were guessing at everything (loudly). About halfway through the movie I couldn't resist and said just as loudly to my boys, "Geez, it's a shame he dies at the end of the movie." We giggled, and they quieted. _________________ -amom

When I was watching Two Towers in the theater, a group of kids right in front of me was talking through the whole movie (which is like close to three hours). Basically it was one kid like, "Oh, this next part when so-and-so does this is sooo cool!" Finally, at about 1.5 hours, this dude next to me leans in real close and says, "I paid to watch this movie, not listen to you." They shut up. _________________ The end is nigh!
