...was incredible. Somehow, this matchup always seems to live up to the billing, but last night was something else. Just a fantastic game. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Ah, especially the 4th and 2 on your own 30yard line with 2:14 to go in the 4th quarter. The old Billy they knew and hated in Cleveland. ( in all fairness, it appeared they made the first down if the tv yellow line was right).
But why? |

If you're going to make the call to go for it on fourth down, your QB has to throw a pass that goes beyond the first-down marker. You can't hope that your guy falls forward for the first down. My gripe today is with Jeff Reed on that kickoff return for a touchdown. I actually heard him on the radio today saying "My job is to turn the play inside so our fast guys can make the tackle." Then he added, "I did my job." BULL@#%%!!! First, turning the guy back inside doesn't mean flitting past him like a little girl skipping through a meadow. It means getting in position and assuming a stance from which you could conceivably make a tackle or at least PHYSICALLY slow the guy down. So, Jeff, NO, you did NOT do your job. Maybe they need to get a couple of drinks in him before the games. He seems very physical and aggressive when he's opening up a can of whoop-azz on a paper towel dispenser or wrestling on the streets with police officers. _________________

I was wondering about that lack of a tackle attempt. I didn't see the play, but heard something to the effect of "no tackle by Reed." What the heck, give it a shot at least. The "fast guys" obviously weren't doing it. _________________ -amom

Jeff Reed is a ponce.
Brady's pass actually did go past the marker, but the ball was bobbled as the receiver was tackled, so they gave the spot at the point of contact with the ground instead of giving forward motion. The part that made it an epic failure was that they threw that play just before the 2 minute warning. If it had been after the 2 minute warning, the powers of review go to the booth, and that play would have been undoubtedly reviewed and maybe, just maybe, overturned. However, because it was outside of booth-review time, Bill-Bel would have had to toss the red flag to get a look. And therein lies the problem; NE inexplicable burnt all three of their timeouts in totally untimeout worthy situations, killing the last two in rapid succession late in the 4th. When they tossed that last one, I remember thinking, "that's going to be huge if they don't put the game out of reach on this drive." They didn't. And it was huge. _________________ The end is nigh! That goal-line fumble by Maroney was a killer for them. _________________

There were lots of mistakes on both sides. I've never seen so many dropped passes by a single team compared to the Colts last night. Drop after drop after drop. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Of course, Marvin Harrison, at this stage, couldn't get open enough to attempt to catch anything. _________________

I must be a masochist, because I watched that Browns-Ravens game until the final gun. There are several really crappy teams in the NFL, but the Browns are in a class of their own, at least offensively. They have now scored a total of five offensive touchdowns in their last 15 games. And when you look at the talent level at the skill positions, it's not like there's a lot of hope for the near future. Brady Quinn is looking more and more like Rick Mirer (overhyped, undertalented Notre Dame QB), their starting running back is 72 years old and planning to retire, and no one in their wide receiver corps looks like a future star. Another "funny" thing from the weekend was JaMarcus Russell saying he couldn't understand why he was pulled from the game. Uh, JaMarcus, your stats were as follows: You completed nine of 24 passes for 67 yards (2.8 YPA) before being pulled. You suck, and you're a dumbazz. _________________

Browns @ Lions this week, then @ KC week 15, and home against the Raiders in week 16. They might have a chance against Oakland. But even the Raiders have a couple promising players at skill positions. The Brownies, like ya said, are void of talent. They have to finish 1-15. _________________
