Both Phillip Rivers and Norv Turner were 100% certain that Jeff Reed was going to miss that late field goal last night. You could see it in their body language and facial expressions. Rivers especially was all smiles and jokes. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Also, I don't think Willie Parker will be back next year. They have no need for him. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Provided Mendenhall doesn't get in trouble with the po-po or turn into a fumbling machine, Parker is a dead man walking. You could see the difference last night in how much more quickly Mendenhall hit the holes. Parker has lost a step, and when your whole game is built on speed, that's the death knell. _________________

He has a Super Bowl run of 75 yards. No one else does, so may have another few good runs left in him.
Defense needs to pace it self like a long distance runner does or they will lose some games in the waning moments, but 14-2 might still win the division, unless Cinci goes 14-2. |

All the more reason his days are numbered. Mendenhall AND Moore look more than adequate for the Steelers' run game. As a free agent, Parker won't want to hang around and sit for them to run when his stock is still relatively high. He'll be looking for a place to start just as much as Pittsburgh will be looking to welcome the cap room. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! That 75-yard run is water WAAAAAAY under the bridge. He might have a couple more big games after soft defenses, but in general, he's toast. _________________

I am kinda disappointed that he seems to have peaked so quickly... I thought he'd be a dominant runner for a few more years... _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Partial credit has to be given to the o-line for creating the holes last night. Many times Parker has looked like he would have been good if not for getting hit in the backfield so often on almost every play. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Can't run if no one makes a running lane for you to run in, ever been in a jam on I-70-I79.?
Never ceases to pizz me off when going for a 3rd , 4th, 1 or 2 and try to rush the middle where 20 of 22 players are congregated in a 5 yard circle, then hit the center of that circle. and blame the runner when he gets pancaked. |

We'll see. I don't think he'll be in black and gold next season. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

The way the O-line played last night, Parker, Mendenhall or Moore would have had a good game. But I think Tomlin got his message across to mendenhall loud and clear and he played as if inspired last night.
I am a huge Parker fan but I truly think he has lost a step since his leg break. _________________

Mendenhall kept his legs moving, he was bouncing off hits, he was finding the giant holes and the small lanes... I was impressed. Its too early to anoint him the starter of the future. But if he keeps running like he did last night, and shows that he isn't injury prone (my biggest concern), then he is obviously a feature back.
No matter what. No matter if Willie ran for 2,000 yds. No matter if Willie was league MVP. No matter if Willie scored the winning TD in this years Super Bowl.... Willie is gone. That was evident when he didn't get a contract extension this offseason. You can also kiss Ryan Clark goodbye.
In his next contract, the team that signs him will be signing a 30 year old running back. If its not obvious to anyone that he has already lost a step, research running backs over age 30. All trends show their skills diminish more than any other position. If you take into account the playoff games, Willie is probably a season ahead (as far as games played) than most RBs his age. |

Yeah, they say 30 is the mark for RBs, but a much better indicator is number of carries over a career. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |
