How is it not his fault? He ran the country and had 8 years to see this coming.

Did Congress have anything to do with it? Or is just as usual all his fault? Hell he was so busy planning the 911 attacks and whipping up the Katrina hurricaine he probably didn't have time to get to the economic stuff! _________________

Congress had something to do with it too, but he is not free of blame. He played his part. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Yes, TetriS, i still think that. Care to post a link to something we both can agree is a reliable source that disproves it? _________________ "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." ~Martin Luther King Jr.

I doubt we would ever agree on a reliable source. And you are certainly entitled to your opinion.
Cy-I did not imply that Bush had no blame. But he certainly is not to shoulder the entire blame either. _________________

This is from Newsweek, an obviouisly right leaning publication so probably not all that credible...but I found it interesting and it echoes my feelings so far about Obama
If ubiquity were the measure of a presidency, Barack Obama would already be grinning at us from Mount Rushmore. But of course it is not. Despite his many words and television appearances, our elegant and eloquent president remains more an emblem of change than an agent of it. He's a man with an endless, worthy to-do list—health care, climate change, bank reform, global capital regulation, AfPak, the Middle East, you name it—but, as yet, no boxes checked "done." This is a problem that style will not fix. Unless Obama learns to rely less on charm, rhetoric, and good intentions and more on picking his spots and winning in political combat, he's not going to be reelected, let alone enshrined in South Dakota.
The president's problem isn't that he is too visible; it's the lack of content in what he says when he keeps showing up on the tube. Obama can seem a mite too impressed with his own aura, as if his presence on the stage is the Answer. There is, at times, a self-referential (even self-reverential) tone in his big speeches. They are heavily salted with the words "I" and "my." (He used the former 11 times in the first few paragraphs of his address to the U.N. last week.) Obama is a historic figure, but that is the beginning, not the end, of the story.
There is only so much political mileage that can still be had by his reminding the world that he is not George W. Bush. It was the winning theme of the 2008 campaign, but that race ended nearly a year ago. The ex-president is now more ex than ever, yet the current president, who vowed to look forward, is still reaching back to Bush as bogeyman. _________________

That sounds like an editorial -- one person's opinion -- not a news story in the magazine. _________________

I did not post it AS a news story-I just thought it was unusual to read something like that from Newsweek. _________________

Were you being facetious when you said Newsweek is conservative? I've always thought of it as fairly liberal. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I believe he was... hence, the reason he was surprised to see that type of editorial in newsweek _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Have less kids. |
Hey Cy, I have been saying that for years. Those on low incomes can't afford kids. we all end up supporting their kids. If you can't feed them, don't have them. _________________ George |

I basically agree with you. I'm all for people having as many kids as they want, but don't have a bunch and then be like, "woe is me, I don't have enough money." That's what happens. However, the problem of the welfare baby makers is on society, not those individuals. We have a responsibility to provide adequate sexual education and contraception to them so that they do not become our burden. An expecting them to simply not have sex is unrealistic. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |
