Hey this might have been up before and I am sure its because I too lazy to read through everything, but are you guys getting the pig flu vaccine. I've heard it a nasal spray and that it actually is a live virus. I know it's weakened but every time I get a live virus shot I get the damn disease. Did I read this wrong? |

All I know is my Mum, who is 72, gets a flu shot every year. She got her regular shot a week or so ago, but REFUSES to get a swine flu shot because she thinks it is a man-made disease. There is no convincing her.
As far as my getting one, I'm not in the so-called high risk category, so I'll let those who are take my turn. _________________ -amom

No... I have never gotten a flu shot, and despite the fact that pig flu seems to disproportionately affect healthy young males, I am not going to get one. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I think it's funny that none of us are interested in getting it. Amom that's hysterical, my Mom is 89 and she doesn't get one either but I don't think its because its manmade. Too cute! |

Some, including a few people in the CDC, really think its going to be bad. I just don't feel like I am in danger though. Everyone who has died from it so far has died because they had something else wrong with them that killed them after the H1N1 weakened their system. I'm pretty healthy and I'm good about washing my hands and I rarely go anywhere but work and home so its just not a concern to me. Others need the vaccine more than I do. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

i'm probably going to at least get the regular flu shot this week.
i read yesterday that the weakened live virus nasal spray has tested as less effective than the H1N1 vaccine. If i opt for additional vaccination for H1N1, it'll be the shot.
A young married couple in the choir this morning who both are students at the University of New Mexico (he's law school, she's med school) reported a big impact there this past week from illness. It wasn't clear if it's seasonal influenza or H1N1, but there are many students & faculty out sick. The school is strongly recommending everyone carry their own hand sanitizer & sit no closer that two seats away from anyone else. As if influenza is only contagious within six feet.
i don't think alarm & panic serve any good purpose, but i'll also be glad when the flu season is past. _________________ "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." ~Martin Luther King Jr.

Is an alcohol based hand sanitizer effective against a flu virus? I know that, depending on the type of bacteria, it is effective against bacteria... but viruses?
Just wondering... _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

In theory, yes, but a flu can become immune to alcohol as an antiseptic. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

There was a thing going around last year that the hand sanitizer was dangerous to kids. It seems the scents added to the sanitizer like watermelon and bubble gum were so enticing that the kids were licking it off their hands. Some to extreme of alcohol poisoning! |

In the service you have no choice and line up like cows for every shot imaginable. My flu shot had me in the base hospital for 10 days, quarintined and running a fever of 99 t0 104. Rising up to the point of convulsing and back down, with needles of penicillan in the buttocks.
No shots for me since or ever. |

No, I've never received any kind of seasonal shot to prevent the flu. I find that the best form of prevention is to wash my hands several times a day. |

Got my seasonal flu shot on Monday. No adverse effects other than the tiniest bit of tenderness at the injection site the following morning. H1N1 vaccinations won't be available here for another couple of weeks. _________________ "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." ~Martin Luther King Jr.
