The politicization of equal rights continues.

Quote:
On Meet the Press, David Gregory asks Rep. John Boehner whether he thinks "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" will be a Republican campaign issue. Boehner replies that now is not the time to deal with it.

Says Boehner: "I don't think it will be a campaign issue. But in the middle of two wars, and, and in the middle of this giant security threat, why would we want to get into this debate? While, at a time when Americans are asking, 'Where are the jobs?' why do we want to get in this debate? While we're fighting over health care and trying to find some way to come to some common ground, why do we want to get into a divisive debate that will do nothing more than distract the, the real debate that should occur here about helping get our economy going again and getting the American people back to work."

He probably wants to save the "debate" until November when they can put the issue on a referendum or something. Nothing drives the masses to the polls like a good old hate vote.

Top uniformed officer says to overturn it:

Quote:
WASHINGTON – The military's top uniformed officer declared Tuesday that gays should be allowed to serve openly in uniform, arguing that it is "the right thing to do."

Adm. Mike Mullen's statement was the strongest yet from the uniformed military on this volatile issue, although he stressed that he was "speaking for myself and myself only." He told the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday he is deeply troubled by a policy that forces people to "lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens."

I still think its more about sinking Obama than anything else. They want to be able to say he has accomplished nothing at all and they will do whatever it takes to make that come true. They've already failed on some appointments, the stimulus, cash for clunkers, a few other small bills, etc., but this one will have national exposure. Expect them to really lower the bar in terms of intelligent and meaningful arguments while trying to stonewall this one.

If they just want to sink Obama they just need to sit back and do nothing. He is sinking just fine thanks to the Dems in Congress. He does not ned any push from the right.

We are apparently referring to two different Obamas.

You don't think the current democratic congressional leadership is pulling him down?

He told the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday he is deeply troubled by a policy that forces people to "lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens."

Mullen said he knows many will disagree about abandoning the "don't ask, don't tell" policy and said there are practical obstacles to lifting the 1993 ban. But he said he thinks the military can handle it. Mullen is chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and chief military adviser to President Barack Obama.

My opinion is that no, the Democratic Congress isn't pulling President Obama down. According to corporate funded media they are, but their spin doesn't exactly have a great record of reflecting reality.

I think the current democratic congressional leadership is on the same page with him, but too many of the other congressional democrats have their heads up their asses. What I also think is Republicans consistently voting straight party line against him on everything, even the stuff they say they are in favor of, is clearly stonewalling. We'd get a lot more done if some of the Republicans would actually vote for the things they support instead of making up leaky arguments against it to justify their partisanship; its become all too obvious what they are doing.

Perhaps the realities faced by Americans who are reaping the harvest of a decade of Republican policies are sinking everyone's hopes.

His poll numbers aren't sinking. They are the same as they have been for the past 8 months.

There's nothing to debate. Just do the right thing. I think those tanning beds are frying Boehner's tiny brain.
