Great answer SSSS. That is actually the proper way to handle such a situation.
It just hit me why phony is sticking up for the smelly guy. Its his Italian heritage. I used to get matched up against this Italian kid in basketball. His entire back would be sweatty w/in 5 minutes of practice. He was one of the few guys who would shower before changing back into street clothes.

Phony...I said HR should've handled it. And these women obviously work in an office. There is no reason for this person to be sweating profusely & stinking so bad that she needs heavy perfume to cover up her body odor.

Sounds like a plan to phoney, I would guess. 
Seriously, more often then not, these people have some sort of phobia about BO or an over-sensitive nose and do this to compensate, or in this case over-compensate.
What we need to do is to ask her not to wear perfume for a few days and let us see if you do stink and as a group after two days or so, render a decision, " you stink, wear perfume or you don't stink, drop the perfume'
Put SSSS in charge with a bat.

| Phony my dearest conservative buddy, you know I love you but..........I am allergic to that cheap kind of Polo. We had a parent who bathed in it, even staff members without allergies couldn't stand when this guy came in the building. The smell lingered for it seemed like hours. I couldn't help his kid because the kid reeked of it too. This smell is so intense to me that I have an inhaler just because it sets of a wheezing attack. I use it for nothing else. I walked into Giant Eagle around Xmas time and smelled it at the fruit displays. I thought oh great someone has Mr. so and so's cologne on. I started the wheezing and tried to finish what I needed to do quickly. THREE AILES down guess who I run into? His kid is out of the elementary now and if I ever see the dad again and he comes up to say something to me I am going to tell him that he reeks like a whorehouse and move on away from me. |

| No phony that's not what I am saying. I was under the impression that this kind of thing is covered under the AMericans with Disabilities Act. The company needs to find an equitable solution for everyone around, like moving one of them in the office. By the way you don't wear that cheap ass Polo do you? |

Yeah, and if that company manufactured widgets that you need every day, and they raised their prices to the point that it would drive you out of business, just to keep the "STINK DOWN"?????

WTH are you talking about? It's not that expensive to move a person to another office or for HR to ask the other employee not to wear perfume. It would be common courtesy for the one wearing the perfume to stop wearing it, if it's making her co-worker sick.
