Am I the only one that thinks the time of all these problems is a bit odd? I mean you have American car makers going in the pits, Asian car makers viewed as the most reliable, Toyota becomes the biggest sellar in the US, and then this magically happens right then? Its awfully convenient.
For the record, Toyota doesn't make their gas pedals, they outsource that to a company called CTS Corp, based in Elkhart, Indiana. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Thanks for the heads up! I've been following this closely, as you can imagine, and apparently the brake problem only concerns the 2010 Prius. Mine's a 2004, so I should be OK until the new problem comes along.
I am still waiting word on when I will be getting my new floor mat, however.
BTW, the most recent gas pedal problem is only for those Toyota vehicles manufactured in the U.S. The ones put together in Japan are not part of the recall. (Again, I should be OK.) _________________ -amom

I had this thought, too... I am SUPER surprised that Glenn Beck hasn't seized on this as a secret government plot to artificially boost GM sales to "legitimize" his socialist takeover of the US... _________________ The end is nigh! Glenn Beck probably loves it; America defeating the Japs again, just like WW2. Brings a tear to his eye. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Yeah, but the "America" that is winning is not the "America" that he grew up in... you know, the one where domestic abuse wasn't talked about and pregnant teens went away to a home for whoregirls and autistic kids were kept in the basement where they belong...
The "America" that is winning now is Obama's america... and that's no america worth winning for _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Update on Toyota in view of the recent "runaway" Prius in California. I read as much as I could, including comments to the news stories. There was some concern out there that a vehicle could not be put into neutral once the RPM's met a certain level. The guy with the Prius (and his 15 minutes of fame ) said something like he didn't want to try to put it into neutral because he didn't want to take his hands off the steering wheel or some BS (however, it was OK for him to take his spare hand and call 911 using his cell phone). Whatever, he panicked. So, adad decided to try an experiment yesterday. He floored the gas pedal, got it up to 75 mph, then put it into neutral without letting up on the pedal. The engine quit racing and the car slowed down. Hmmm, back to "defensive driving 101" I guess, and don't panic. _________________ -amom

I'm surprised the engine quit racing... did it redline first and then drop off? If I did that in either my truck or my wife's car, it would be bouncing at 8000 rpm until the engine caught on fire But the car would coast to a stop... _________________ The end is nigh! Well, we don't have a tachometer (is that the right thing?) so he couldn't tell if it redlined, but the Prius is so highly electronic we figure it must have some sort of trigger built in that shuts off the engine when the vehicle is put into neutral. Who knows. I'm just glad to know that neutral will work. And even if the engine continues to race and blows up, it beats accelerating into a hillside, no? _________________ -amom

Absolutely!
I have a sneaky suspicion that the cure to the toyota electronic problem is as follows

Remember, amom.....Although Toyota has plants here, in the U.S.A., they are all NON-UNION, with the exception of one plant and it's scheduled for shutdown. That one plant is the only one not SHOWING A PROFIT....gee, I wonder why? UNION WORKERS???? _________________ Exposing the secular humanist liberal "progressives". |

Yeah, "E", all the fatalities must have been by Toyotas....
The U.S. Department of Transportation said Thursday that traffic fatalities in 2009 reached their lowest level since 1954.
Highway fatalities totaled 33,963 nationwide last year, according to the DOT, a drop of 8.9% from 2008, when deaths on the road totaled 37,261.
The government also said that the fatality rate in 2009 declined to 1.16 fatalities per 100 million miles traveled -- the lowest rate ever. This is down from a rate of 1.25 fatalities the prior year.
The DOT also said that fatalities have been in decline for 15 consecutive quarters, through the end of 2009.
Traffic deaths reached a "near-term" peak in 2005, then plunged 22% through 2009, the government said.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration attributed the decline in deaths to its campaigns for increased use of seatbelts and against drunk driving, as well as safer roads and safer vehicles
