I used to play around with them... but I know that they are making 8 bucks an hour and have an excruciatingly sucky job... so if I get a call, I clearly and calmly say: "I'm so sorry, but I don't speak any English, whatsoever." _________________ The end is nigh! I still love the one where the guy answers the phone and pretends to be a cop investigating the murder of the guy that the telemarketer is calling. The dude on the phone is so confused. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

When I was in school, I used to work as a market researcher, which is just as sucky as being a telemarketer bc people assume you're trying to sell something. I once had a guy panting on the phone as I introduced myself. When I finished my intro, he asked if I could call later bc he was in the middle of having sex! I said, "Maybe you shouldn't have picked up! Sorry for interrupting...Enjoy!"
The worst of all the surveys we conducted was one that we had to call senior citizens in Florida & ask them about their healthcare. The survey was supposed to be about 20 minutes long, which is already a pretty long survey. Since many of the elderly we called were lonely & really wanted to talk, it took 45min-60 min to complete. I've always had a young sounding voice, so they REALLY liked me, they said I reminded them of their granddaughter...I felt bad, so I'd indulge them! Many were hard of hearing, so I had to speak up...By the end of my shift, my voice was GONE! Had these call a long time ago:
Had a poor girl call me from the Arthur Murry Dance studio to sign up for dance lessons, , acting indigant and yet wimpy, told her I was in a wheel chair and did not find her call very amusing. She apologized over and over and probably quit.
Another was going to give me a freezer full of beef if I bought the freezer. ranted on about ten minutes of how much we and our 8 kids and my wife's two simple cousins,(Maude and Claude)love beef and "credit"plans, but the one problem would be we had no electricity.
When he asked why, told him the Electric co. shut it off for non-payment and how lucky he was to have gotten ahold of me as the telephone guy who is going to shut the phone off, just pulled in the driveway.
Then asked if I still was going to get the beef? "Click" was all I got.
I was at one time intimidated by these types on the phone, then learned to have fun with them.
