trust me, dick, it increases a tiny amount to the employer...I've been on both sides of this issue...Filed, and been filed against...and while I agree with Cy that, conditions permitting, it would be fun to raise some he11....the best advice is to let it go

I wasn't disagreeing with you freethinker. I was just adding some clarity as to why. I have only been on the employer side when I worked in Human Resources. While in most cases the employer contribution is only increased a tiny amount, they also factor in the amount of cases attributed to you. With the high turnover described, I bet this woman is paying a pretty penny for every claim against her.

Hey, Dazes... why don't you share the name of the company with us? If things don't work out for boo, perhaps the internet can exact some poetic justice... Smile

My take is that he has nothing to lose in fighting it, but the odds are severely stacked against him. Our company has a subsidiary that employs a couple hundred minimum wage workers. We automatically fight every unemployment claim and win about 95% of them. That is mostly because our employees are idiots. However, the ones we lost were heartbreakers because in some cases they were THE biggest idiots, but for whatever reason the arbiter sided with them.

I used to work for the subsidiary I mentioned... out of THOSE employees' checks, there would be like 45 cents that would go toward unemployment insurance... I have to assume that we (parent company) pays at least a matching contribution...

So that's 45 cents times 200 employees every two weeks... 2,340 per year on their end, which isn't bad. What our cost is, I don't know... but there has to be a compelling reason to go through the expense of fighting EVERY single claim.

Results of a Google search reveal:

Quote:
This post concerns the employer H.H. Seiferth Signs located in the Strip District Pittsburgh, PA. My intent is to inform any aspiring/struggling designer/artist/recent graduate about this employer that I have had the recent unforunate experience of working with. Seiferth signs is first and foremost one of the absolute worst places to begin a valuable working experience in Pittsburgh for any desperate designer. I am writing this not just for my own personal gain or because I am extremely dissatisfied with this employer even though I am. I am writing this post for any struggling designer or recent graduate who is eagerly seeking a start in their chosen career field. Seiferth Signs is certainly not the appropriate beginning. If you are ever pulled in for an interview you may disregard my warning at first because the shop manager Theresea will seem nice, friendly, and nothing but sincere. She will give you the impression that the position you are seeking is easily learned and that plenty of help/training will be provided. This is quite the contrary. She and other shop workers will slowly demean you, treat you with little to no respect, and make you feel as if you are useless. After two days upon working with them I was expected to flawlessly operate a router/CNC milling machine, a large format printer, and apply various methods of signage including vinyl and plastic counter parts. I was not only expected to perform these tasks efficiently, but also hassled constantly as if I were a common moron even though I informed her upon my hiring that I had no previous experience with the equipment or skills required. The pay they offer is fairly decent at $10 per hour plus benefits, but this serves only to lure new and burgeoning art students into their terrible working environment. If you are also considering safety around extremely dangerous equipment and materials you might want to bring your own protective measures as there are no precautions whatsoever at this facility. I do hope that this informative warning reaches as many people as possible so as to prevent any easily avoidable mistakes and wasted energy and time that could be spent maybe creating something useful for yourself or searching for reputable companies with well satisfied employees that are at least treated with respect and as humanely as possible. I certainly don't mean to anger anyone with this warning I intend for it to be purely as a helpful message from one self respecting artist to another. I hope that this has been helpful for some of you out there and good luck with the job hunt. I know that I will require some luck as I have quit my previous job which wasn't half bad in retrospective and now am forced to continue my search.

I went back to page one and looked for it... not thinking that she provided it after I asked for it...

I'm dying of plague, btw... I'm going home to nap.

Have fun, yinz Smile

That's probably not admissible but it should be. Cy thanks, I always knew you were a good kid, a bit petulant at times but a great friend!

Sorry, friend, you cannot win this without investing more into it than it is worth...a Pyrrhic victory...Count your scars with pride and invest your time and effort into starting a new business or finding a new job...Don't waste your obvious talents on empty revenge

Beat them by being better than them. In 20 years, Boo will be a young entrepreneur and Seiferth Signs will still be spending 400 hours a year in court settling employment disputes.
