My mom needs to have her gall bladder removed. Normally I know it's a pretty easy procedure. The problem is in six month she'll be ninety. A kinder, better woman you will never meet. She hasn't had any problems other than severe arthritis in her back. Her last operation was about forty years ago. We have been blessed, but I know she is terrified she'll have a stroke or something while under the anesthesia. I have to admit I am afraid for her but am pulling my best Patton and am not letting her see my concerns. Anyone else know of someone this old having the surgery? It is supposed to be the 3 hole suck it out kind of thing, I believe.

I don't know anybody old who has had it...

My mom had the three hole suck and it went off without a hitch.

Another woman I know went in for the three hole suck, but the bladder was in such bad shape that it wouldn't stay in one piece, so they had to do the big incision.

I hope your mom weathers the surgery well.

Thanks guys! She is tough and I know she isn't going to stay down even if she is told too. Her mom was 91 when she passed and that crazy woman was still climbing on top of her roof to clean the dormer windows.

My mom just had her gallbladder out last Tuesday. She visited her sister in Buffalo for Thanksgiving, and I saw her over the weekend and she seemed to be at 100%. She is only 59 though.

I'm sure it will all be fine. The doctors know whats best.

I have a friend at work whose 90-year-old father had a total knee replacement. He came through it just fine. I'm sure that the doctors are taking her general health into consideration when determining that surgery is the best option. Any operation is scary, no matter the age. Best wishes for her quick recovery.

Another thing is, you have to bet she's going to feel a whole lot better once that diseased organ is removed.

You are all great. If 50 is supposed to be the new 30, then maybe 90 is the new 70! She better be OK for Christmas, she can't leave me alone feeding my two crazy sisters and their families!

When my grandma was about 95 yrs old, she was hit by a motorcycle and her leg broke in three parts. She had surgery and she healed nicely. I'm sure everything will go well with your mother's surgery! Smile

The laparoscopic approach is supposed to be much easier on the patient than the old method. If they're willing to go ahead with it, they must feel that any risks due to her age are minimal.

Dazes---I saw that you mentioned that your mom's surgery turned out to be more complicated than expected. I hope that everything went well and she's recuperating!

Thanks Ana, they needed to open her up. The surgeon said her gall bladder was a mess, full of stones and dissolving, whatever the hell that means. She was full of scar tissue as well. I was really upset last night, she looked so small and frail in that hospital bed. They had just given her a shot of Demerol and she was very confused. She asked me how my day was and I said Well mum I spent the whole morning in the hospital, how was your day and she said Oh pretty good honey.Too cute! Thanks for asking I am off to the hospital now to see if my mother is back in her body or that frail old lady is still there.

I bet she'll be much improved today. Our thoughts are with you, Dazes.
