Yeah, I never meant for it to mean I thought lowly of homosexuals either, but you have to recognize that the word carries a certain stigma with it that expands beyond your control. That's why I eliminated it from my vocabulary. I was afraid I would let it slip in the wrong company if I got accustomed to using it.

Right, and I know that. Depending on my state of mind, I see both sides. I can rationalize in my mind that I"m not being an insensitive jerk. I'm not using a word in the context to which it's meant to be offensive. So, those who are offended need to stop being so sensitive.
But when I'm around a real a-hole, who I can tell deep down has hatred toward the slur, then I'm on the other side of the fence.
