Lol. Just got another Civic. We're boring like that. I'm peeved because of the fact that we did nothing wrong and yet got screwed out of a large portion of our savings. We could have gone used, but the whole point of buying a Honda new was (among other things) that they retain value so well. The idea was to trade it in in a few more years towards a new car and reap the benefits. For example, if I had traded it in prior to the wreck, would have gotten about 12 K for it (not what the insurance gave us either, by the way). So when they wanted to just fix it, it was like, "yeah, the car will run, but we'll never get that value for it on trade-in now." USAA saw it our way and told them to total it, and they did, but they only gave us KBB resale value, like 10K or so, on it, which is close to trade in I guess. But again, the whole point was to trade in not on something used, but on a new product, again with high value retainability, when we were ready. The accident forced our hand; we had to throw down on the new car now while we had the chance. Ultimately, its not going to be a huge deal, but it smarts right now because the previous ride had a good three to five years left in it. The alternative, buying something at the value of the total check, would have put us in the hole down the road when trade-in time came through no fault of our own. Its just annoying. You do everything right and you still get hosed. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |
