Got the official statement today. Car will be in the shop for over a month. Damage estimated at $10,000. The car was $17,000 brand new and that was three years ago. Safe to say the other driver caused more damage to my car than it is worth. Glad his insurance is paying for it! _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! That's crazy! Are you feeling ok? Any pain? Sounds like it was a serious accident! _________________ "If by a 'Liberal' they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties ... if that is what they mean by a 'Liberal,' then I’m proud to say I’m a 'Liberal.'" ~ Senator John F. So they're going to remove a significant portion of the frame from my car and weld a new frame in. The value of my car will be much less than the cost of the repairs when they are done. They should have just totaled it, IMO. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I'm surprised they didn't... you are going to have to drive it until the doors fall off now... which they might _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I'm getting my insurance involved again. Going to have them take a look at it (they never did because the other insurance just said they would pay whatever the mechanic said it would cost...but that was before I knew that the frame was effed). Hopefully they'll look and be like, "nah son, this chit is broke." Or something akin to that. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! We've had two vehicles in serious wrecks. The first was a VW Rabbit that was nearly T-boned by a Caddy. They did NOT total it and it was worth crap after it was put back together. The second was a Bonneville, that was again nearly T-boned (both cases the other vehicle hit at the front wheel forward). This one they DID total and the repair estimate was only $1,600. We bought it back, fixed it up, and it ran for years afterwards. So who knows what the insurance company is thinking. _________________ -amom

Well, my insurance is USAA and they are always good. The other guy has State Farm but I trust my mechanic to do the right thing. If USAA says okay to the frame repair, I know they are talented enough to do it right. I just want a second opinion before I commit my car to what may be 6 or more weeks of work (because of all the holidays) knowing I'm losing several thousand dollars of value on it. The plan was always to drive this car for several years, then trade it towards a new one at the right time, and that goes out the window here.
I'm still really pissed at the other drive. WTF is the matter with you to just pull out into traffic like that? _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

When the Rabbit was hit the other driver said he didn't see us. The car was YELLOW for goodness sakes. How can you not see a YELLOW car?! _________________ -amom

Maybe Obama can do that too! We could have government-run car insurance!
