PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Aaron Smith has a right shoulder injury that coach Mike Tomlin says "potentially could be significant."

Awwwwww snap! This isn't good. Its time to see what our first rounder, Ziggy Hood, can do. He looked real good in the preseason. I'm kind of surprised we haven't seen much of him in the regular season.

I should've read the entire article...

Quote:
Tomlin said first-round draft pick Ziggy Hood is not yet ready to replace Smith, and that Travis Kirschke, Nick Eason and Hood would be used in his place.

But we'll see him soon enough if the injury is really "significant".

The entire story:

I truly feel that Aaron Smith is the most under rated player in the NFL today.

I'm with you SSSS. Lineman, especially 3-4 defensive lineman, rarely get any love.

The most underrated player in the NFL is Peyton Manning. And yes, I mean that. Despite the heaps and heaps of praise that he gets, he's so good that the amount of praise he gets doesn't even come remotely close to what he deserves. He is the best quarterback ever EVAR. The dude is like Robocop, The Greatest American Hero, and Denver the Last Dinosaur all rolled into one. Except he can throw a football really well.

Seriously, the dude's stats so far this season are unreal.

Sorry-it is very hard to consider him under rated.

Agreed. The guy is a superstar. Rightfully so, but he doesn't lack for attention. And despite all his talent and numbers, he still has only one championship to his credit.

I agree with you about everything you said..... EXCEPT for the underrated part. Peyton Manning is in fact, properly rated.

I know you're a big fan of links and numbers, so... here. Between the first two links alone, 8 of 8 experts have him ranked #1. I would've used the most recent rankings, but the Colts are off in week 6. He will no doubt be #1 across the board again next week.

Dan Marino had no championships and he's considered one of the best ever. Peyton will add ring number 2 this February. He's quarterbackingly speaking the second coming. Of who? I don't know. QB Jesus I guess.

He might very well be the greatest quarterback ever, but since a great number of people believe that, he's not underrated.

The fact remains that the term "underrated" is overly used. Most football players are, as I said, properly rated. Especially under the microscope of NFL analysis.

Underrated at the beginning of the season were Cedric Benson, Rashard Mendenhall and Willis McGahee. Based on their play, they are now properly rated.

Is that to say that their rating came up or that their level of play has underwhelmed?

Their level of play has come up in the names I mentioned.

Peyton Manning will be underrated until they build a statue of him that is equal to or greater in height than the statues of Dear Leader in North Korea. And it has to be placed in the middle of the Colts' stadium, like on the field. They will just have to play around it during games. At the point, he will be properly rated...maybe. The statue has to be pewter too.
