When health care workers go on strike and or get across the borad raises the cost health care goes up, just like the cost of cars goes up with increased labor cost.
When unions expect more money across the board for doing the same job labor cost go up and prices follow. Raises should only be warrented if you do more or take on more responsibility (merit raises or a promotion)
