Last night is the reason why I love baseball. The Twins defeated the Tigers in 12 innings to claim a spot in the playoffs. Detriot scored in the top of the 9th, and Minnesota answered. To force last nights play in game, they won something like seven regular season games in a row to tie the Tigers atop of the AL Central.
After using eight pitchers last night, the Twins have to go up against the mighty Yankees tonight.
This is exciting stuff. It just sucks that these games have to be five hour investments. |

Now is when the season should be over and not be playing hardball in frigid weather for most of the games unless they are played in a dome.
Short of not having a dome, then do as the Super Bowl does, play where it is WARM, a parka is not a part of baseball attire .... and one more period.
Almost as dumb as the college bowl games when a lot of the teams playing in the games has their regular season end in middle of Nov. and 4-6 weeks later be expected to play their biggest game.? Isn't that much time off more like the beginning of the season then the end of a season? |

You're absolutely right about baseball. Its all the World Baseball Classics fault. Why hockey runs into June?... well, there is no excuse for that.
And NCAA football is a business, not a sport. I hardly follow it. You have to be in the top 10 preseason rankings to have a shot at winning the National Championship. To answer your question, because they make more money having bowls games around the holidays. That means higher ratings.
And the Yankees are winning it all. |

Yeah, I'm picking the Yankees to take it home this year too. The only way that doesn't pan out is if the Sox knock them off with their deeper pitching.

Neither would have made it as a wild ,card. so they both suck.
Boston has no pitching--they are out.
California has a good shot.
Yanks will depend on CC. CC chokes, he chokes bad under pressure and throws a lot high and away to righties and inside to lefties. If he just moves about 4" to the right(3rd base side) of the rubber he would be fine. Instead he keeps moving to the left and walks too many.
Then he overcorrects and those walks turn into too many runs to get back. Maybe because he wears his hat cocked on his head and his ears keep it from covering his eyes.  |

Boston has no pitching? Beckett? Wakefield? Even Daisuke when he gets out there on a good day is as competitive as anyone. To say Boston has no pitching at all...I can't agree with that.

| I kinda get what he's saying. They have decent starters, but Lester is the only one who I'd call an ace these days. And their bullpen is filled with old arms. In comparison to the other AL teams, they're probably in the bottom half. |

I'm not saying their staff is stellar, but I think they have deeper talent than NY, Sabathia notwithstanding.

| Fine, think what you want. But I disagree. The Yanks actually have some of the better young pitching the league has to offer coming out of the bullpen. |

Did you know that Dice-K spent 3 months on the DL... basically because he sucked. I think they called it "anxiety" on the injury report. They called him back to the team in September to get on the playoff roster. I'm not sure how he's been doing.
And on the Yankees side, Phil Coke has been almost as lights out pitching the 8th inning as Mariano Rivera has been pitching the 9th. And he can even pitch the 7th and 8th sometimes. If the Yankees have the lead in through 7, the game is over. |
