You know-I was just not going to respond to any of these because quite frankly I get tired of chasing the same arguments around and around.-but it is the REPUBLICANS showing a lack of respect for the office of the president-are the Repubs the ONLY party to do this? Do I not recall a certain New York Senator rolling her eyes while GWB spoke to Congress?

In reading the rest I am reminded of something Hannity said years ago-if you want to know what the liberals are doing, just listen to what they are accusing the conservatives of doing.

I absolutely refuse to believe that pointing the finger at others for past behavior, true or not, in any way justifies present behavior. Conservatives ALWAYS ARGUE that two wrongs make a right. I don't care if Hillary Clinton jammed a penknife into George W's thigh while he was speaking. The behavior of the GOP right now is inexcusable and every card carrying Republican should be embarrassed.

Is my rendition of your post not true?

Exactly. This is why our country is screwed; people are more interested in payback than doing the right thing.

Let's still be fair here 4s's, who didn't roll their eyes when Geoge W. spoke? Many times, I swear to god, I thought the man was drunk, or seriously impaired.

I listened to him with an open mind and never had a problem understanding him or getting his meaning. But the open mind might have been the difference. As I have said before I do not require elegant speeches to make me respect a man or his values.

No, I'll credit him with that, I always understood what he was saying and why he was saying it. I just ended up disagreeing with almost all of it by the end.

Yeah, i suppose if you serach long enough one can always find a partisan blogger who 'proves' one's claims. Here's what a Library of Congress article stated in 1999 regarding the balancing of the federal budget, the reduction of the deficit, and the projections current at that time.
Quote:
Fiscal Year 1998 will mark the first balanced budget in 29 years. On July 15, 1998 the Congressional Budget Office revised its surplus estimate once again predicting that the 1998 surplus will be $63 billion, and if the current policies remain unchanged, the surplus is expected to rise to $80 billion in 1999. The OMB's Mid-Session Review issued on May 26, 1998 predicts a 1998 surplus of $39 billion. This is a remarkable turnabout given that as recently as FY 1992, the federal deficit was $290 billion. This surplus is the culmination of six years in a row of successively improved fiscal balances, the longest such period of improvement in history; will cause the debt burden to shrink for the fourth year in a row (i.e., debt held by the public as a share of GDP; and will cause mandatory net interest payments to start shrinking as a share of the budget and as a share of the economy--leaving more room in the budget for productive activities.

Soon after May surplus projections were released, the Majority Party [the Republicans at the time] issued a flurry of press releases making the claim that so-called `Balanced Budget' legislation and other bills enacted by Congress last year are responsible for this turnabout. Such claims are simply not credible. Just as it took years of fiscal imprudence in the 1980's and early 1990's to build up a $290 billion deficit by 1992, it took years of adhering to disciplined and responsible fiscal and monetary policies since 1992 to dig out of this deficit position.
So, you can either believe an admittedly partisan blogger, or the Congressional Budget Office, reports from which the Republicans rarely fail to cite when it suits their purpose, but which they easily ignore when it doesn't. Mr. Steiner is certainly proficient at excerpting verifiable data to bolster his flawed argument. It still remains a fact that the Federal Deficit decreased under Clinton, while it has increased under every Republican Administration since 1980.

Dems do not seem to care much about the deficit nowdays. Oh and that came up on the first page of a google search so I did not have to look long for it.
