When was the last time any of you were at a "Mall?"

I just realized that it has been months, I think... And even then, it was to drop something off for my mom...

I haven't walked down the main mall hallway at an actual mall for a really long time... I wondered if I was alone in that.

I've been not to long ago and will be there again this week, but specifically because I have to pick up a rented tux. I have a wedding to go to. Other than that, don't normally go. Malls depress me.

I was at Century III last Thursday. Well, actually only in Dicks and I used the outside entrance. When I do go to a mall, I usually have a specific store in mind. I may browse if I have time to waste, but most often I'm in and out. *sigh I miss leisurely shopping. Sad

It's been months since I've been in a traditional mall (not counting the strip malls like Trinity Point and Strabane Square). They're becoming white elephants.

I work very close to the Monroeville Mall, so when I was recently in the market for a new pair of running shoes, I hit up Footlocker, Finish Line, Payless, and whatever else. That was just last month. I do a lot of internet shopping, but I won't purchase shoes unless I've tried them on.

I almost punched the guy who works at the Verizon kiosk (or whatever those little set ups are called). Where does he get off calling me rude for not following along with his open ended question style sales pitch.

He started in, "May I ask you a question"

Me, "No thanks"

Him, "You haven't heard the question"

Me, "No thanks, I'm in a hurry"

Him, now following me two stores away, "You're rude. I only wanted to ask you a question".

I kept walking... but he fired me up enough to make me not want to walk through a mall ever again. I really hate sales people.

lolwut. That's when you turn around, grab the guy by the collar, pull him uncomfortably close to your face and then say at a volume level just above a whisper, "If you say one more word to me, I will damage you permanently."

Laughing Laughing Laughing I like both replies

I bought my work shoes on shoebuy.com. Also, free return shipping. It just seems like a pain in the butt if you would have to return them.

Yeah... I hate SHIPPING something back, even if it's free... If I want shoes, I want them like 10 minutes from right now.

I'm that way about coke. Am I talking about the drink or the substance? You decide.

I would rather be nibbled to death by ducks than go to a mall!

What I don't like about malls is those crazy "mall walkers" that will run over a window shopper in a heartbeat! And I have a problem with the insistent salespeople from the kiosks too. Except the ones that seem to pester me are the girls selling some sort of hand conditioner that want to see how dry my hands are. So I put up my hand and tell to talk to it instead...

Ok, not really, I'm not that short, even to salespeople. Embarassed

People in groups have lots of annoying habits but malls are a good place to see them exhibited.

The wall-to-wallers: normally younger, a group of oblivious people who come to the mall to talk to each other and mosey and apparently nothing else. There's always at least 5 of them and they walk in a line, spreading the entire width of their side of the hallway, preventing you from passing them from behind until you just force your way through. They aren't any better when they see you coming. They just keep walking, expecting you to move out of their way.

The mall royalty: normally older, these are the ones who hog an entire section of the clothing rack, dvd shelf, hand soap section etc. taking forever and ever to decide what they want when all you need is to grab the one thing you knew you wanted from the start but they won't get out of the way. You only realize they are the royalty when, after politely saying excuse me to get to your product, they not only do not apologize for being in your way, but they glare at you, clearly insulted that you have encroached on their right to do whatever they want wherever they want without being questioned.

The wrecking ball: The person who isn't averse to entering other peoples' personal space. There is a straight line between where he is and where he is going and god dammit, he's going to follow it. If you get in the way, prepare to experience the shoulder bump.

The unattended: A child, normally a boy, normally around 3, who suddenly is underfoot and preventing you from moving in any direction because every time you start, they are right there again seemingly intent on getting hurt by you so you can look like a jerk in front of everyone. The unattended isn't actually at fault here, its the absent attendee that you are always looking for at this point that deserves your ire.

BO Bob: The guy that didn't shower and is fine with that. Fittingly, you don't run into him at places like bath and body works.

The orator: The girl in the clothing store who wants to let everyone know what a bitch Kyra is and how she stole Tasha's boyfriend. If I wanted to hear that, I'd watch 90210.

Haggling Hannah: The person that is inevitably right in front of you in line when you picked the shorter line thinking you'd get through faster. How could you be so naive? She likes to insist that she picked the 20 dollar sweater off the sale rack.

Amom, I also have run into those hand-cream peddlers. I was at the mall one day wearing my usual slobby shorts, Crocs and Hawaiian shirt, with a two-day growth of beard, when I was accosted by the girls asking my if I'd like to try their cream to soften my dry hands. I replied, "Do I really look like a guy who gives a damn whether his hands are soft and moist?" That shut 'em up.
