news flash dick,
CINCINNATI -- Garrett Jones, the 28-year-old rookie legend-in-making, scrawled his name in the franchise's history this afternoon by clubbing its 10,000th all-time home run in the Pirates' 123 years.
The homer, his 18th of the year and 13th solo shot, came on a second-pitch fastball to open the second inning. It traveled an estimated 375 feet before landing in the right-field bleachers at Great American BallPark. And it came against a Cincinnati starter named, appropriately enough, Homer Bailey.
Jones, whose Pirates season didn't start until his June 30 recall from his fifth season in Class AAA, also struck the team's 9,999th homer, last evening.
"Oh, nice," he said upon learning that fact afterward.
The ball and bat were retrieved by Cincinnati Reds officials for Jones to autograph and the Pirates to keep among their artifacts.
The franchise became the 14th of the 16 pre-expansion Major League Baseball teams to reach 10,000.
According to records, the first Pirates homer was hit May 2, 1887, by Fred Carroll against the Detroit Wolverines and a pitcher named Lady Baldwin.
Jones' blast also tied the score in the top of the second inning, 1-1. |

Week 1 predictions are up. See the first post of this thread. Here's my my full season predictions for posterity:
The first post will be updated throughout the season with week by week predictions. I'll make some end of the season standings predictions now just for fun even though they'll probably be highly inaccurate. These are "gut feeling" predictions and as such, I didn't check to make sure all the records are mathematically possible. Its just how I sense it will turn out right now turned into a win-loss record for each team. No further introduction needed.

Chris Henry, 4 TDs in 4 preseason games... George might be right!
Then again, the Lions were 4-0 in last years preseason.
My Week 1 Prognostications:
Vikings -4 @ Browns
Jets @ Texans -4.5
And Monday Night, Bills @ Patriots under 48 |

I'll take that under too. I'd spot the Pats a maximum of 35 points and the Bills a maximum of 10. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Yeah, that pick is based on Trent Edwards sucking and Fred Jackson... not being Marshawn Lynch. Buffalo actually has a decent defense, but Brady can pick apart even the elite defenses. |

I think Brady will be a bit rusty even with Moss, so that's why I don't give them more than 35. And Buffalo just fired their OC, so any type of production from them will be very surprising. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Well I start the season 1-0 and I'm one Hines Ward mistake from picking the Steelers' score exactly right. However, it was a costly win as Troy Polamalu, who literally existed at all places on the field simultaneously for the first half, sprained his ACL and will miss up to 6 weeks. When I saw the injury, my guess was partially torn ACL and 8+ weeks, so at least its not that bad. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! That should say MCL, not ACL. Just to give you an idea of what the Steelers will be missing, Polamalu had 6 tackles, one of the most athletic picks I've ever seen, and at least one pass defended that I saw (they don't stat that and I didn't watch every second of the game). The next closest guys in the sheet are Keisel and Fox, each with 5 tackles and a handful of assists. So Polamalu had secured the most tackles for the Steelers IN ONE HALF. The rest of the D played twice as long and no one made it to 6 solo tackles. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Troy's pick was insane! He is not human.
The slo' mo' replay of fat ass Alge Crumpler falling on Troy's knee looked extremely painful. Out 4-6 weeks with the MCL sprain... whatever... just be healthy come playoff time.
The Titans D was tough. Pittsburgh couldn't run the ball for sh*t. We're lucky to come away with a win. [/b] |

BTW, Troy's presence on the cover of Madden 10 keeps the curse alive this year. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

He shared the cover with Larry Fitz this year. This is the first year that that has happened, so it remains to be seen if the curse effects all players that appear on a cover or just one. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Wasn't very good last year either, but we won after getting a few RB's creamed. If the opposition knows that the runner is coming in to the line every play just about, its easy to stop them. Need a more creative OC, play maker, or 600lb. OL who can move their 400lb.DL back.
Really, do something other then have a 190 or 220 lb runnner charge a wall of fat. |

The Steelers really needed to do a better job of addressing their o-line in the off season. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |
