;Brant, exactly, what did Bad Ronald ever do to improve the lives of any American? He was pure balony and wrecked the economy, just not as severly as President Cheney. |

ellipses wrote: | Amph... that was my blog post for today... I was going to go for the "impressive list that is really really long" but it took too long to couch my first 5 questions...
I could have done 50 or so single line items, but I figured I'd round it off at a simple 5.
Here's the thing... I really REALLY enjoy Christianity... I mean, it's kinda hard to justify picking up a BA in MEDIEVAL ENGLISH LITERATURE at a 40k per year college if you aren't GENUINELY captivated by some of the material... I mean for F***'s sake, I named my son Chaucer!
But "Christianity" is so much bigger than the Bible... the bible, on it's own, is woefully short on being water-tight... however, a whole set of "fill-ins" have been created... which sorta kinda makes the bible a perpetually living document... kinda like the amendments to the constitution, actually...
But so many people seem to take those undisputedly (is that a word) man-made conventions and interpret it as the actual will of God... these are arbitrary little sub-stories that can be changed on a whim... and HAVE changed, through time...
I mean, if it weren't for all the auxiliary stuff that comes in the "Christianity Box"... one would be hard pressed to see a "religion" built around just the bible... I mean, if there was no such thing as Christianity... and you took a big bag full of books, including the bible... and dumped them in someone's driveway... and made them read them all and develop a religion based on one of them... there's no guarantee that they would pick the Bible as their model. |
Best would have been a lot better had you rounded it off at "0", God you are worse then CNN radio at yakking. |

You are jumping to conclusions. I don't think anyone here has a problem with you personally. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Sorry i haven't posted more extensively yet. Instead of being able to sit at my 'puter last night, we had dinner with our architect. The plans for the big home remodel are coming along nicely but there are so many things to consider!
In the meantime, i recommend you check out some of Bishop John Shelby Spong's books. He asks many of the same questions as those that started this thread. While i don't always agree with where he ends up, i find his exploration of those questions fascinating. The fact that he's a consecrated Bishop who feels personally compelled to ask them and honestly seek answers really blew my mind when i discovered his work several years ago. _________________ "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." ~Martin Luther King Jr.

E, if you would enjoy some preaching to the choir, check out videos by Pat Condell on YouTube. I'm going to check out Amphi's link now. _________________

Kudos to Bishop Spong. That's some good reading. What's the fee for signing up for his newsletters, I wonder. Of course, he uses the word "progressive" on his home page, so I don't think some of the folks here would be interested. _________________

CNN is channel 249 or something on SiriusXM. It just streams the audio of the TV feed... which 99% of the time is fine. Unless you really want to see Larry King in HD behind some million dollar graphics... which who doesn't?! FoxNews does the same.
There are some political talk RADIO stations though. Sirius Right, Patriot Radio, Sirius Left, and POTUS... which is the only one I can listen to. |
