I saw an article on the MSNweb page. School officials are afraid that childern are not eating because they are not getting their free breakfast and lunch since there has been no school for a whole week. I guess parents are no longer responsible for feeding their children. If that is the case I suggest keeping the kids in school for another half hour and feeding them dinner as well and only providing enough food stamps to cover weekends. We could cut the food stamp program by 60%. I have been against the combination of free meals in school while providing food stamps to provide the same meals.

I agree with the first part, Pap... it's dumb to think that the kids aren't eating... it would be smart to wonder WHAT they are eating, instead.

I mean, the kids get holidays, act 80 days, in-service days, and 120 days from June-August off... not to mention two days every single week... and they manage to not shrivel up and die of starvation.

I wonder how you arrive at the figure of 60% for cutting the food stamp program... From what I understand, poor families don't really get all that much money to buy food with using that program to begin with.

Westland School didn't even have a water fountain, and we produced the GREATEST GENERATION ever from those types of conditions....

I'm tired of this freaking GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION within our daily lives.....

There was definitely SOMETHING in the water where you grew up, even if it didn't come from a fountain.

Food stamps are hardly an intervention in my daily life... I have absolutely zero experience with them and could go months at a time without even being actively aware that they exist. That's not much of an imposition

"E", from the time you open your eyes in the morning, until you lay down to sleep, the government is playing a part in your life......think about it, before you give me a "NET FLIX" response.

They do a good job at being discreet... I hardly notice them at all!

What are they doing to me right now? Are they buggering me all silent like a ninja?

Oh, what's that!? Is that a gubbermint in my closet? Oh, no... that's just some gay feller that can't marry his valentine...

What's that over there?! Is it a socialist brown-shirt patrol? Whew! Nope... just a squirrel.

That government... rascally, I'd say:-)

there are 21 meals a week and 14 are free at school (7 breakfast and lunches) 14 divided by 21 = 66% free meals for childern.

Since when has parents benn absolved from being responsible for feeding thier kids. Why should we pay twice for feeding them 14 meals per week.

So, Pap, if parents are unable to feed their children, and if they don't have family and friends who can help, are we just to ignore that and let the kids starve?

We have been feeding them double for the entire school year. These families just received the monthly food stamp allotment.. Why should the kid be hungery. I bet the parents are still able to afford tobacco, adult beverages, cable TV. etc, All I am saying is that if the food stamp program isn't working, feed them all meals at school. Do away with the food stamp program.

Am I the only one that finds it odd that george is assuming every single child in school is poor and on food stamps? What evidence is there that kids who are eligible for the free breakfast and lunch at school also get food stamps?
