Sorry to disabuse you of your preconceived notions of honest Christians,

Free--thank you for pointing that out. I remembered that quote last night, so I looked it up and copied & pasted, but since I know the quote I didn't read the whole thing! _________________ "If by a 'Liberal' they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties ... if that is what they mean by a 'Liberal,' then I’m proud to say I’m a 'Liberal.'" ~ Senator John F. I was referring to the fringe elements, Free, not the good Christians. _________________

So, I had an awesome time at 12:15 mass at IC Church in Washpa. I sang my heart out to Jesus... and sang, and sang, and sang!
After three slow jams, with a reading mixed in, the Preist finally took the podium. He started telling the story of how most people, in this time period, would hold a gathering and serve the good wine at the begin of the party... and after everyone was all sauced up, they'd serve the lousy wine.
Not Jesus. Jesus held a gathering and served superior wine throughout the entire evening. And that is when the deciples really began believing that Jesus was the son of God.
This was the greatest story I had ever heard in church. It all started with some good wine. _________________

Lol @ Dick! I sang at church yesterday & I was thinking the same thing! This is why I don't get those fundies that are against drinking & say that Jesus & the disciples didn't drink wine, that it was grape juice. The story doesn't make any sense if they're drinking grape juice! Grape juice & vodka maybe
What do the fundies think happens when grape juice sits around? It gets fermented. I'm sure the wine wasn't anything special in those days.
After the priest told that story and said Amen, I just remember looking around thinking, "ok, is everyone still buying this BS?" The big guy just told the story of how Jesus got his followers drunk, and then, after the fact, they followed him.
Kind of like when a union is holding a vote, so they make it known that there will be a keg to drink from. Or a fraternity is looking for new members so they offer free drinks at their open house. Or any of the millions of other quid pro quo examples _________________

I've always thought that St. John the Divine had to be hitting the hookah and probably doing some other harder stuff when he wrote the Apocalypse. Those were some "revelations"! Did the priest point out just how much water the Gospel of John said Christ transmuted? Let's see...six stone jars which each normally held about 20 to 30 gallons of water for purification rites. So that's 120 to 180 gallons of good wine. Woo-hoo!!!!
As our priest mentioned Sunday, "That's a lot of wine. Of course, I don't know about parties at your homes...."(insert congregational chuckles) _________________ "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." ~Martin Luther King Jr.

I wonder how Jesus cured all those hangovers. Now that would be a miracle. _________________

Wine was low in alcohol back then. You needed 180 gallons to make it worthwhile. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |
