So, Washington will hire a 70 year old man to clean up the downtown. he will make minimum wage to boot. Want to bet this will do nothing for the city but waste money? what do they expect a 70 year old to do? If he tries to cite a 18 year old he may be asulted and severely injured or killed. Once the bad guys figure him out they may run him out of town. This is a bad idea. The article did not mention his hours but I assume it will be after 5 PM. If before that time it is even more of a money waste as they have a code enforcement guy and a police department to handle business durring daylight. The police also work 24/7 so tell me again why we need him. Heck even Wyatt Earp wouldn't be able to clean up Washington, not at minimum wage and no deputies!

Agreed, George. But after 5 p.m., Washington is pretty much a ghost town. I don't known who he would catch then.

The prostitutes, drunks from the VIP and potential drug deals for starters. Maybe he can tag parked cars all night to raise a litte money for the cash strapped city! Works for Canonsburg.

I'm guessing they'll have him working day turn, when none of the bad stuff is happening. In other words, a waste of time. Of course, if he comes out when the bad folks are around, I'd fear for his safety.

Why pick on the VIP? Aren't there drunks pouring out of Freesyles, the Union Grill, Joses, May'Rs, the George Washingon Hotel bar... W & J College?

And why bother the working girls? They're just trying to make a little scratch.

You are correct about the other bars but I believe the W&J campus is out of his area abd they have a inhouse security force younger that this dude. I believe even South Main below Maiden is out of his area.

Oh... Well, they should extend it past Maiden. There is that large public parking lot across from Jose's that is kinda back behind everything. And why not extend it all the way down to the South Side bar across from the W&J football field. Patrons get as chitfaced there as any other bar in Washpa.

While we are talking about bars has anyone else noted that the Caberet West is closed and for sale now. I bet that makes a lot of people happy, including the DA.

I gather from here that:

Bars, Beer joints are the only sources of trouble in Washington.
Only "bad" people go to these places.

It is understandable why bad people do what they do, the price of drinks is not cheap these days so these bad people hit the streets, rob people to get money for more drinks so they can shoot, stab , and fight in these places after they shoot, stab, and fight people to get the money to get in the bars. A vicious circle it seems.

Yes, a 70+Security Guard should have no trouble at all breaking that circle. good move Idea

Did they happen to say who this security guard is? There was a guard down at the millcraft center for years... he was a nice guy and is probably in the neighborhood of 70 years old... His name is Buzz
