Well, that's a glass... and as a guy who loves a good glass of wine, I understand that... but a bottle?
The whole point of the glass is that it gets your nose into the game early... you can have a leprechaun humping a gerbil inside the bottle... it's still going to come out of a hole smaller than a quarter. No matter what goes on in the neck, you are essentially drinking from a flute glass, which is designed to deposit the liquid in a particular area of your mouth at a particular velocity. Nothing can change that unless you radically change the opening of the bottle. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I'm pro-unique-glassware to a point with beer. I think Belgian ales go best in bowled stemware and pilsners and lambics need to be in skinny glasses and stouts need a pint glass. But I don't buy into that whole thing where every single beer has its own style of glass. That's just marketing to make an extra buck. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Beer number 4 of the 5 out of town beers is Lindemans Cassis. This is a fruit lambic from Lindemans. I've have their cuvee rene gueze and their framboise before. Cassis is currant beer. This is unsurprisingly sweet and fruity, like a sweet carbonated wine. Not much to add to that. Its pretty darn good if you're into that stuff. Not at all the traditional beer flavor though. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Tonight's beer is one I picked up from the GIANT eagle. As an aside, I met the guy in charge of the beer there and got a hot tip on a big time beer coming in in a few weeks. But more on that later.
Tonight's beer is Imperial Gemini, a "blended, unfiltered ale." Its an IPA at 10.5 abv. Looks like your average IPA, a bit cloudy and a bit darker than normal maybe. Smells and tastes hoppier than a mofo, but the alcohol subdues it a little and allows me to drink it. Otherwise it would be too hoppy for me.
I think that if you like hops or specifically IPAs, you'll back flip for this. For me, its just good. Its from Southern Tier, which I believe did one of the other beers I just reviewed. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! So the beer dude at the GIANT eagle is named Jim Georges. I talked to him for probably like 30 minutes last night. He's a cool guy. He says he picks the beers he orders by talking to customers and browsing beeradvocate for ideas. Anyway, I asked him if he was going to get Stone's Imperial Stout in and he said he was working on it. He also gave me a hot tip; Ten FIDY is going to be in in a couple weeks. I'm all over that. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Also, Jim told me Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head are collaborating on a beer called Life and Limb which will be out in limited release in a couple months. And its on his list. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

The final of my 5 beers from out of town is Black Hole from Mikkeller, a brewery in Denmark. This is a Russian Imperial Stout.
Pours black as death with NO HEAD. Like they didn't even try to carbonate it. Seriously.
The smell and taste are very strong (this monster is 13% abv).
Pretty good RIS but I like my beer to have bubbles, so there are still other RIS I'd take ahead of this one. For the strength, though, its hard to beat. Its more of a sipper really, playing the role of a liquor instead of a beer. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |
