Does this company have two "C's" in the name?

No, but it has a K where there should be a C.

They still haven't even called me. My boss is on the phone with the tech guys bitching them out as I type.

Well at least I have the day off tomorrow. Adobe put me through the ringer today and the short answer is that they fixed nothing. Apparently, Adobe just doesn't work on Windows 7. They'll be spending tomorrow working on it more while I'm gone, which means I'll be sans laptop when I go out of town this weekend. Which pisses me off.

I should just buy my own backup netbook. The only thing I want on the move is internet access anyway. For now, I will leech of my wife when she's not using hers.

I think its entirely possible that you just can't use PDFs on certain versions of Windows 7 yet.

How is that even possible? Is it just adobe? What about that firefox plugin for pdf?

That sounds so ridiculous, you'd think adobe's products would absolutely work seemlessly...

Well, its definitely Adobe in my opinion. I mean, I think its funny that I never had compatibility issues with Windows Vista and have had them out of the box with 7, but in reality I can't pin this one on Microsoft. Adobe is dropping the ball big time. From what I can tell, the problem isn't consistent across 7 users but tends to hit Windows 7 64 bit users regularly enough that they should be on top of this. Its not Microsoft's responsibility to make sure Adobe can keep up with patches, especially when 7 is basically Vista with a bow on it.

Here's the part that really pisses me off: my Adobe suite is the web professional. My company paid $1800 for me to have this software. Yes, with 2 zeros. We call Adobe tech support and get Indian people. After bouncing between three of them, we are told we have to pay $40 for tech support. That's right, $1800 software doesn't come with free tech support. But wait, it gets better. They don't sell tech support sessions in single tickets. You have to buy a packet of 5. So we had to pay $200 for tech support. We're never going to use the other 4 sessions.

On top of all this, Adobe was completely useless in solving my Acrobat issue. It still doesn't work right. It at least stays open long enough for me to look at some PDFs now, thanks to my own work in my own time patching it manually myself, but absolutely nothing that Adobe did on the phone helped.

So that's $1800 for software that didn't work, and $200 for them to tell me it should work.

You better believe I'm going to rip the hell out of them on the blog at some point this week.

Those two are like BB and SSSS, trying to play together.

I had to remove Acrobat entirely from my old XP cause it brought everything to a screeching halt.

How the hell did adobe get the monopoly on the "pictures of documents" software market anyway?

They wrote the script for it and then patented the hell out of it. There are other similar products but I have to use the industry standard...because its the industry standard. Once you get enough people using a software product, you basically have a monopoly without having a monopoly because you have to maintain file compatibility with everyone. Honestly, I think they need to rewrite copyright law for the digital age. Filetypes should not be allowed to be proprietary.

Being the industry standard should also mean that you HAVE to maintain compatibility with the prevalent operating system of planet earth (Windows... in your case, 7).

OOooooh! side question...

Do they make NAS drives with ESATA ports? I can only find one or the other... NAS or ESATA/USB... never one that does both.

It looks like I can get 1tb of either for in the neighborhood of 100 bucks... maybe lower depending on a couple variables...

Have you seen them cheaper anywhere?
