DeWeese overdramatized this a bit. He was adamant about wanting to come talk to the editorial board today. One might assume that he had some major announcement to make, but really he was just reinforcing what he had indicated before: that he fully expected to seek re-election. A simple news release would have been sufficient. It will be interesting to see if any other well-known Democrat will challenge him in the primary. And from what I understand, the fellow who ran against him on the Republican side the last two times, Greg Hopkins, has now moved out of the area and won't be running. So, will the Republicans put up a credible candidate?

No, I'm dead serious... To me, DeWeese is like Pettit... everyone rolls their eyes and makes "big arms" but identifying "the thing" they did wrong is often anything other than acute...

Brant had explained to me once what people's gripe with Pettit was... but I can't remember... aside from "he was corrupt" (ok, what did he do that was corrupt?)... all I can remember is that he didn't give the family of a drug dealer all the dead drug dealer's possessions... or something like that... I dunno...

I don't want to rehash pettit... what did DeWeese do?

Which... while not legal... has somehow caused people to revile him as if he... say... cheated on his cancer-stricken wife, fathered a bastard child, lied about it for two years and got a married aid to claim the baby as his...

Do you have anything more specific on this? Because this is like the same sort of thing that Cyril Wecht was put on trial for... having an intern take the coroners van to go pick up lunch...

I'm not saying he didn't so something horribly wrong... but if it's something like using his office copier to run off campaign fliers because Staples was closed... you know?
