I'm eating one for fun. Anyone else do this? Its the only pepper I know of that literally makes you sweat when you eat it.

Not on purpose. I once had someone hand me one to taste and not knowing the difference, I took a bite. Arghh. I'm surprised I still married him.

Laughing Yeah, I do this every so often. I read somewhere that the capscacin in hot peppers gives you a rush and is also somewhat addictive, so I think that's why I didn't swear them off after the first time.

Cy, my co-worker "Hawk-Eye" , grew some kind of hot pepper that looked exactly like a sweet green pepper. He gave me a piece to taste and that thing(about a square 1/2 inch) was as if I put a cup of nitric acid in my mouth.

When Hawk was eating them with his sandwich; his entire head and what little hair he had, was nearly soaked in sweat.

Hawk died in his middle 50's from a variety of stomach ailments and he suffered badly.

He probably gave himself a bunch of ulcers in his stomach. Some people are more susceptible to that than others. For the record, I only crunch on a hot pepper like this a few times a year.

No doubt that is right and suffer he did. I have never been able to eat any hot pepper by itself.
Even when I can them, I wear rubber GLOVES. That capscacin? stays on your hands a long time and if you touch any opening on your body, it burns, burns , burns.

Yes it does. First time I ate a habenero straight, I wasn't prepared. Immediately reached for my milk carton and drank straight from it. Big mistake. For the rest of the week, when I drank milk, I had to put up with a burning sensation.

Also, an hour after eating the pepper, thinking I was okay, I absent mindedly reached up and rubbed my eyes. It took about 1 second for me to realize my mistake and about 3 hours for me to pay for it.

I get a lot of homegrown tomatos as gift here at my store. I've gotten pretty good at making a very hot salsa with habeneros and green chillis as the heat ingredients. After rubbing my eyes the first time I made it, I haven't done it again. Even after washing my hands several times with oil soaps and oxyclean, there is still spicy oils left on the hands. Its seems that I have to wait overnight until some of the cells die on my hands and peel away.

...yeah, so, I wear gloves now.

Gloves are basically a requirement when handling habeneros.

Done that eye thing which led to the glove thing, but the pepper Hawk was eating was a pepper that looked like a "Bell" pepper, not the straight yellow Hungarian shaped one which is why I tasted it. Never saw a Bell pepper that was hot.

Might have been a Poblano. They some times look like bell peppers, although they are typically a little pointy at the bottom. They are a bit less hot than jalapenos typically.

Eat them enough times and your rear will acclimate. Not saying it doesn't still hurt, but its mild and can be overlooked.
