Well, that "customer action shot" is a little creepy. Actually, a lot creepy!

Last night:

Fresh salad with a ginger dressing
Sweet Potato tempura
Edamame sprinkled with salt and crush red pepper
Bottomless pot of green tea
6 spicy salmon maki
6 avocado maki
2 pieces of unagi nigiri (fresh water eel)
One caraffe of hot sake (Sho Chiku Bai)

いただきます

Pretty much the best possible meal I can imagine.

Where do you buy cuts of fish and eel like that? Can I just use the fresh salmon at Giant Eagle? I saw the wife bought some avocados last night. She loves sushi. That'd be a nice surprise.

Or after rereading the post, did you eat out?

I ate out...(that's what she said?)...at Sushi Three in Mt. Lebanon which is my go-to spot for Sushi. Small, not very crowded, quiet, wicked good food.

If you're trying to go the homemade route, I suggest a look at the asian market at the east end of the strip district. They have a fish freezer in the back and claim all is sushi quality. They have some good stuff back there and that's probably your best bet for some of the more exotic stuff like eel or octopus.

Otherwise, any of the Giant Eagle market districts probably have sushi quality fish, but I would always ask first.

Dick--A couple of my friends were told not to eat sushi while they were pregnant. I don't know if that's a general rule for pregnant women or if it's just a myth. You may want to google it!

Its the mercury. Stay away from tuna and atlantic salmon. As a rule, the bigger the fish, the more mercury will be in it. Alaskan Salmon is pretty low and fresh water stuff will have a lot less.

Exactly. I love fish. My wife won't have any part of it ever since I knocked her up. I figured, last trimester... come on, a little mercury aint gonna hurt the little chit. Do you know how much mercury is in breast milk!!!!? Oh, none. Come on, you love sushi. And after an hour of begging, maybe she collapses... maybe.

She's so close to due date that its unlikely the mercury would have any effect on the kid's development, but better safe than sorry I say.

Its amazing what a positive effect this kind of food has on my psyche. It seriously leaves me with a subtle high for days at a time. If I could afford it, I would have the exact meal above at least twice a week, maybe with a beer and one more sushi choice thrown in for good measure, or a bowl of miso soup.
