What good are kids, if you can't torture them for fun...?

wait until Taco Bell has some pimple face adolescent working the drive thru then pull up and order a Happy Meal. When he says we don't have that say "Well, I got one here yesterday!". He will go get the manager for sure!

Speaking of getting the manager, when I worked at a retail establishment some years back, there was an electrical problem that affected the cash registers. No problem. I just opened and closed the register manually and made change for people. Big problem for the kids working there. Without the register telling them how much change to give people, they were freakin' clueless. Like deer in headlights.

Yes, we are the calculator generation. My register isn't computerized at all. It didn't take long, but there was about a week learning curve before I got the hang of counting customers their change back.

I've worked and run the concessions stands for every youth sport my kids were involved in. Not only did we not have electronic calculators to tell us how much change to return, we didn't have any calculator to add up the totals. Not real difficult when you are adding up a $1.00 hotdog, $.50 chips, and a $.75 pop, but you'd be surprised at how difficult it was for some of the other people there...adults and kids both! I've worked a few of those fundraiser type things before. The last one was in high school when I was still in Italy. It was on a NATO base and this was before the Euro took over, so we had to field both US Dollars and Italian Lire and keep them straight. Yeah, it was about as fun as it sounds. Some crazy Gypsy lady came up and bought food and used a counterfeit 100,000 lire bill. It was the worst counterfeit I've ever seen of any currency; the font for the number wasn't even right. It was like a cursive font when the real 100,000 is in block lettering, but one of our cashiers still took it. We fished it out later and I still have it in a box somewhere.

Little story...About a year ago, guy comes into our country store, dressed to the nines, and definitely lost... Buys a pack of gum with a fifty dollar bill...Young girl counts out his change and lays it on the counter...As he reaches for it, he "accidentally" knocks the dollar bill on top down on the floor behind the counter...As she stoops to pick it up, he palms the 20 off the bottom of the stack...Then he pretends to pull the twenty out of his wallet and asks her to break it into twenty ones for the turnpike...Fortunately, we were slow, so I caught the whole thing...
I let him keep the gum

The only think cooler than being sly with your hands is being the guy that catches the guy who is sly with his hands.

What am I missing here?

I buy a pack of gum (1 dollar) and pay with a 50.
She puts 49 dollars on the counter. I knock a 1 down on the floor (48 dollars on the counter).

I palm a 20 off the stack (28 dollars on the counter, a 20 in my palm and the girl is picking up a dollar).

I give her my palmed 20 for change.

28 dollars on the counter, girl giving me the 1 dollar that I knocked on the floor, me giving her the 20 I palmed, her giving me 20 1 dollar bills.

When this is all settled, I end up with 49 dollars and a pack of gum.

Yeah, I think that's what he was getting at.

Sorry E, I didn't want to make the story too long...As the whole thing progressed, the money never left the counter...Except for the twenty he took. And he demanded the girl recount it, and include the extra twenty he supposedly pulled from his wallet...Your math is wrong

DEAD WRONG. Sorry, I've just always wanted to say that after someone says "wrong."
