For me, its steamed artichokes. Dip the leaves in melted butter and enjoy.

Does bread get enough credit?

You could give me any sandwich/burger/hoagie on a preservative filled store bought bun, and take everything in the sandwich and put in on something that was freshly baked, and it'd taste a ba-jillion times better.

Love the artichokes, Cy. I dip the leaves in Hellmann's mayo. Mmmmm. Along Amom's line, I think Harvard beets are highly underrated. A personal favorite of mine that gets no love is hominy. Plenty of butter, salt and pepper. Good eating.

Peanut butter IN tomato soup??? Damn, I never heard of that one before. I do love a peanut butter and sliced gherkin pickle sandwich. And, Ana, you're right about chick peas. Black olives don't get enough respect, either. Good salad toppings.
