Ahhh.. The sanctuary at the end of a thread…Silence descends like a new layer of snow, and we can speak freely, without the fear of a need for speed, or the articles of self-defense…I said before that this forum is too small to contain this subject -- I misspoke, of course, in my hurry -- I meant to say it was too fast…
Big ideas take time to process, and explain…So if you bore easily, stop reading now, you will not find anything cool or quick or funny…
-----
Four hundred generations of parents have taught religion to their children, and we want to know why…
We see no burning bushes or the miracles of parting seas, and, (except for Phony) we don’t hear voices either…Instead, we have certainly witnessed the atrocities and mass hysteria that religion seems to produce. We’ve also seen ample historical evidence that all parts of religion, from pagan to Deacon, were myths generated by human imagination.
-----
We understand how simple minded people can be easily controlled by a con-man who claims personal access to heaven. He provides spiritual comfort, for a price. We’ve seen scientific evidence that our existence does not demand supernatural causes…And yet religion remains, and some intelligent people
continue to support and encourage Belief in impossible ideas…Why this contradiction..? Is religion a
super successful con-job, or an inherent failure of the human psyche…?
-----
The answer is yes, Houston and Virginia, we have a problem ….The human mind is the most complicated instrument in the galaxy, capable of almost anything…It is proud and strong and defiant…And it is atheist…But the human heart still craves for explanations that the mind cannot provide
So we created a God, and like Cy has shown, it was the sun…We never killed God, our minds invented
Him, in our own image, to satisfy an urge that transcends intelligence, offers comfort to stricken souls, and gives guidance to our children. The Sun God morphed throughout the centuries into what we have today.
----
Perhaps it is because humans are pack animals, that we can explain why we still have religion…We need
an Alpha leader to provide protection, and Omega to ensure justice… We made him up, so what..?
Atheists and agnostics have failed to compete in this challenge for the heart, and though I hope they eventually succeed -- for now, I will retain sanctuary in the philosophy of Jesus
----
An honest blessing of Peace to your Heart
to anyone who made it this far
