Let's just preface this with "I do not hate Jon Stevens nor do I dislike white people in general" Smile

Also... I understand that this is a "hot topic"--- judging by the spirited responses to the poll topic from a few days ago... and NO, this is not a defense of the adult...

That all said... in today's story about the 12 year old kid's testimony, I found this passage to be a bit outside of the "record of the facts" kinda thing that journalists tend to try to achieve:

Quote:
The boy, doing everything he could to avoid eye contact with his father, said he first learned of his father's intent on Nov. 3 when he made the "disappearing" remark and asked for his help in committing the crime and providing him with an alibi.

I have tremendous respect for a 12 year old kid who has the courage to testify against his father WHILE HIS FATHER IS SITTING IN THE ROOM... but is this a puff piece on the kid's courage or a report on the events of the hearing? Can you know that the kid did "everything" he could not to make eye contact? Can you report the fact that he did not make eye contact during the hearing without injecting it into a sentence in a way that doesn't really add anything at that particular point in the narration?

I don't particularly care one way or the other... but when I was reading the article, THAT one thing stuck with me longer than anything else in there... and I wanted to share it with you fine folks Smile

You're right, it strays from objective at that brief point.

Also... the kid was much more involved... and over a longer period of time, than I thought based on your conversations in the poll question thread...

I'll hold further comments until more details are released.
