What has Solobay done that you disagree with BB? I think he stays involved, works incredibly hard, and does an outstanding job. He has actually responded when I've written him (even when he disagrees).

Still, I'm in favor of term limits.

George-not quite accurate-you assume that a municipality grows its police departments to match the crime rate-Oh how I iwsh that were true, but the fact remains that most places REDUCE the size of their departments as they need money for other things in the budget. There are exceptions, like North Strabane but most do not have the foresight.
Thw W and J security have no authority off campus.

The East Washington boro has one FULL time cop and several part time. The other reader, who is one of the ones always asking for sources or back up didin't have any for his claim. He never did acknowledge that Washington charges East Washington for fire protection at a price set by Washington.

Yes-they at one time paid South Strabane but they have contracted the city for several years now. I do not know what they pay but I am sure it is a bargan compared to forming their own department.

It is what ever Washingtoin charges. If Washington needs more then raise the rates.

I read the article in todays paper. Will the county also have to pay taxes on all the property it owns in Washington ( courthouse, courthouse square,911 center, jail, healthcenter) most of which are in the city. What about Washington School disctict,?

Bus, I'm just talking about entities such as hospitals, private educational institutions and churches. Those would be my three targets for property taxation or, at the very least, a set system for charging fees in lieu of taxes.

Should be all educational institutions

Good point, Dick, about the colleges tacking on big charges to pad their take. But of course, they just couldn't put a $50 per student municipal services charge on there. Ohhhhh, nooooo. That would scare off prospective students. Yeah, right.

Where do you get your $50 figure. The proposal in Pittsburgh was tied to tuition. W&J is a expensive as CMU and they want $400 pre student at CMU. The existing tax that we all pay is $52/yr for WORKING not living in an area. If the college students work locally they are already paying that through withholding taxes/
