Its nice because AP grades count for one point higher on GPAs than normal ones. That's how I was able to get a B in Calculus my senior year of high school and still manage a 4.0.

I just realized that I said AP classes start in middle school. I meant advanced classes. AP classes are not available until high school. The other nice thing about AP classes is that you can get college credit if you take the AP exam. That saved me some $$$!!! Smile

Yeah, I got six credits from my AP classes too. I had forgotten about that until you reminded me.

No child left behind isn't a complete failure. Parents with children need to ask about extra activities or enrichments so they can work at a higher level. Parents with really low kids have have with their tests such as limited answers and help reading. For Reading Comprehension testa these kids are allowed open books. NCLB was meant to get teachers who weren't teaching out of the system. The union found the loophole and now the tests are taught. The idea was wonderful however the execution left something to be desired, just like cash for clunkers. In theory great in real life not so great! Kinda like Socialism.

.

dazes, seriously, I see nothing wrong with teaching the basics, such as they did years ago, before all this LIBCHIT bullchit came into vogue.....

We need the teachers to control their class rooms, not the freaking GOVERNMENT.

Agreed Phony! There are more excuses for bad behavior that takes control away from teachers and principals.

My brother & i always knew that if we misbehaved in school, somehow our parents would know and have a suitable punishment awaiting at home. Our teachers didn't need to exercise much discipline with either of us - fear of a whupping when we got home was all that was necessary. Plus our parents started us on "lessons" before we were old enough to attend school, and always had more waiting each summer when school let out.

Same here, Amphy! If a teacher complained to my parents about my behavior, I knew I'd be grounded for weeks...And I mean really grounded; no TV, no phone, no going to friends' houses, no playing with my toys...Only school work & going to church! My parents also started teaching me early on & reinforced what I was learning once I was in school...

Kinda frightening, sending your kid off to school, these days.

Shootings, beatings, teachers having sex with students....to what can we attribute these actions?
