As a resident of Avella School District, I want to offer congratulations to Coach Frank Gray and the players on the Avella High School football team for their stunning upset of Fort Cherry last night. Hard work and a never-say-die attitude, despite the long odds, pays off big time. Go Eagles! _________________

I was very excited when I read that in the paper. Those kids and coaches deserve so much credit for holding things together out there. _________________

[quote="Brant"]
The Yankee-Angels played game 4 last night and this umpire is the most incompetent umpire ever and he is the "Chief Umpire". Made 2 major screw ups just in the 2 innings I saw.
One he called a Yankee out for leaving third too early on a tag up when replay showed he never even looked at the runner and split screen showed clearly the runner was safe as the ump was looking skyward at the time.
But this video should be a classic in Umpire Schools for the "Most Incompetent Ever" award.
Clearly both runners are not on a base and he calls one of them safe.

Officiating in pretty much all the major sports has gone in the crapper. I never thought I'd say this, but hockey might now have the most efficient officials. The baseball umpires are clearly the worst, and they seem to have almost an arrogance about their missed calls and their ever-changing strike zones. Sometimes a ball six inches off the plate is a strike; sometimes it's a ball. Sometimes a pitch just above the belt is a strike; sometimes it's a ball. When I was a kid watching games on TV, the umps were amazingly consistent with the strike zone. If you saw one really bad ball/strike call in a game, that was about the limit. And today, of course, they make very, very nice, six-figure salaries to screw up the game royally. _________________

I don't understand why they don't use the technology available to them...
I mean, we have video of the catcher clearly tagging two guys who are not on a base...
What is the explanation for this? _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I know they don't want to mess with the flow of the game, but especially in the playoffs, isn't it more important to get it right? And from what I've seen of the instant replays on home-run calls, the umps seem to get it done much more quickly than NFL officials. You could do as they do in the NFL by giving each manager a couple of challenges. _________________

I'd like to see a few rules in baseball.
1) Pitch clock. Kind of like the play clock in football. From the time the pitcher gets the ball in his glove, he should have say... 20 seconds. If the clock is up (not due to the batter) a ball is added to the count. Give a pitcher maybe one time extension per inning. Chit happens.
2) Managers Challege. Also like challenges in football. Give the manager two challenges. Figure out a penalty for a wrong challenge... maybe an out or something.
I've been thinking about a rule where a pitcher has to pitch to at least two hitters. I just get frusterated watching these games where the pitching is micromanged so the lefty / righty match up is in their favor. This would probably be too drastic of a change though. What I'm really wanting is for the network to find something besides commercials to go to while the RP is warming up. Show me the bloopers or the trivia or the kiss cam... just don't cut to commercials every batter. Thats when I see whats on another channel. _________________

Why do they schedule teams to play so many games so close together? The Pens played night before last and again last night, hell, they are killing the Pens. This is no baseball game, this is hard work.

For some reason , everyone gave in to certain umps by stating "it is his strike zone etc", and that is pure BS. The rules of the game are very clear and the strike zone is included in those rules. I believe it was Lou Brock when he was doing game of the week a while back, who correctly reminded the other announcer about the rule book, after he remarked that it was so and so"s "strike zone". It started a brief flurry of getting the umps back in the game, but seems to drifting off again.
Look at that dufus the other night who messed up several calls( 2 guys out at third). He blamed it on "instant replay"??? Not I am an idiot. |

The hockey schedule is all about money. Teams can draw better if they have games on Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. The Pens are going to draw crowds anyway, but they needed all the help they could get just a few years ago. And even though they played two games in a row, I don't think they play again until Wednesday. _________________
